Werner Herzog's 'Rescue Dawn'

The movie was released yesterday.

Whoever is familiar with Werner Herzog's movies, this one, supposedly, has mainstream tendencies.

Check out the reviews:

I'll check that out. One of my most favorite movies was Fitzcaralldo.

Herzog is some kind of film-maker. I've been hearing interviews with him about the movie. I'm going to see it.

I'm anticipating this movie already for a while, will see it this weekend.

When I was a child I saw Fitzcaralldo; the craziest thing I ever saw, one of those movies that always stayed with me. I believe Herzog chased Claus Kinski with a shot gun during the shoot. Tells you something about the two mad man.

There's a film about the making of Fitzcarraldo that's pretty wild also.

Did you know that the part Kinski played was originally to be played by Jason Robard with Mick Jagger as a sidekick? They filmed the early part of the story with those two until Robard got some serious jungle illness and had to go back to the states. His doctor advised strenuously against returning.

Jagger lost interest due to other commitments. You can see some of their scenes in the movie about the movie. Kinski was much better, IMO. The boat that Herzog dragged across the mountain was, I forget exactly, about 5 times bigger than the original.

Herzog chased Kinski around with a gun in Aguirre,The Wrath of God{1972?}

During Fitzcarraldo the peruvian natives offer to kill Kinski for Herzog, and yes,the magnificent scene of the steamship being winched up the mountain is quite real, except you cannot see the steel cables..............

I'll bet Herzog gave that offer some thought . . . .

Some wild stories about Kinski and his womanizing. Always looking for a berth for little Johnson (unlike the rest of us . . . .)

I read that Aguirre cost about $500 K to make.

Kinski's book, "Ich bin so wild nach deinem Erdbeermund" (I'm so crazy for your strawberry mouth/lips) should tell everything about it.
I don't know if there is an English version available.

Oh well, w/o him we'd not have had the lovely miss Natasha Kinski. Poor thing's not aging too well, though. She was in that movie set in the California gold rush, the one based on Hardy's "Mayor of Casterbridge."

This is a 'see-worthy' movie as well. Herzog is actually in front of the camera as he leads the excursion. He co-authored the script.
Very funny, very trippy ....

The only movie that ever made me wake up with a start in a cold sweat the same night I saw it. The only other film that had a similar effect (like being on acid, man) on me was The Last Temptation of Christ, though not in the same way.

Saw that also. Found it just about as interesting as the original.

Saw Rescue Dawn last night. I'd give it a B or B+. Cinematography and locations were great but not quite what I was expecting from Herzog.

Hmmm .... I will have to wait anyways, since I don't patronize movie theaters.
