Finally, my own funk old diesel (123 Wagon)

1979, 168K, everything works except sunroof.

Seller is a mere 10 min walk away. Great guy, Kelly if you're reading this. Came with tons of extra filters, steel rims, workshop manual etc.

Hope to learn more about diesels...

Parked in my alley/drive in front of the unpainted garage.

Absolutely gorgeous, those old style wheelcovers exude so much more dignified class than alloys.

Enjoy and drive it in good health, both the cars and your own.

Pretty nice car for one that old from the snowbelt. You might need a block heater for those chilly Minn. winters. Attractive color too.

"Diesel Discussion" guys are right there, 24/7 with answers to your questions.

It will require a different attitude and approach with regards to passing and merging and hill climbing than an S600 biturbo

Kind of a yin/yang thing going on with the two cars....

I prefer the alloys on this chassis, to each they're own tho. Gorgeous car!

You're going to love it.

I own an Audi which can take the measure of most cars on the road in a 30-90 mph roll-on (except that I think your s600 would cut it down to size but I find myself driving the tranquil, smooth-riding, comfortable 300SD far more often- you might find yourself in a similar situation. what prompted the expansion of the stable to three?

It has a block heater and an oil pan heater, two plugs under the car.

It's a Cali car. Still has the Mercedes of Hollywood rear plate bracket. The PO drove it from SoCal a year ago, stripped it bare and painted. No rust. New brakes, rebuilt front/rear end, new fluids, filters, valve adjust, glow plugs etc.

Yes, the car is totally different than the 600. In many ways it's more fun to drive. It has an updated stereo, the HVAC was redone and all the accessories work, so it doesn't quite feel like the stone age.

I might sell the 600. I don't drive on the interstate much anymore and only put on about 80 miles/week.

I needed something for the dogs, antiques, landscaping (my wife is gardening fanatic) etc. As mentioned, the heard may thin -- dump the 600. A "cheap" AWD Audi A4 would be fun for the winter. Back to 3 cars again.

That's one clean wagon.

I never figured you'd pull the trigger on an old diesel. The 600 could do circles around it.

Yeah.........we'll help you get it fixed.

It's a kick to bomb around town. My my favorite for the interstate, but a perfect city/suburban car. Nimble, torquey, good brakes and very safe.

I'll be asking questions in the diesel discussion. Once things get cold, issues will arise.

Thanks. I like the wheel covers on the wagons/sedans- alloys for the coupes. Nonetheless, W123s are timeless looking, just like the W126.

Beautiful wagon! I haven't seen many with a dark interior. What color is it? It looks to be brown from the photo. Post more photos when you can (interior, engine bay).

Congratulations and good luck with it.

Cool a 123 wagon-head.

...and thanks. I'll take some better pics tomorrow. The interior color is tobacco. Very nice except for the dash cracks.

I'll be around here a good deal for sure. I'll head on over to the Schuman site as well.

Thanks man.

I was thinking about a conversion, however it seems like all the kits will require tanks that'll take up wagon space. Are there other kits out there that don't?

I'll keep it diesel for now. The only changes on the docket are some Euro style headlamps.

Best to kick that 7-series out of the garage to make room for the wagon.
