Gin and tonic.

Got a bottle of mid grade gin, some schweps, limes & ice.

It's finnaly starting to warm up around here this summer. Pittsburgh has seen 70's most of the season, and were getting in to the 80's now.

It"s been a while since I enjoyed a gin & tonic on a hot day after work.

One of my first jobs out of highschool was with a moving company in the summertime. It was a lot of sweating and hard labor. On payday the crew would go to the corner bar to cash our paychecks, and though I was underage the moving crew diddn't get questioned. We would drink gin and tonics in the AC on barstools and shoot the *****.

Can't say that I've tried one, but I'll bet the mint is a nice summer herb. I do like the quinine though, as a reminiscent taste, and to keep the malaria at bay...

I northwestern Ohio it was up in the low 90's today. I put a couple of 471 IPA's in the freezer and then used them to cool down. Forecast is for mid-90's all week. WHY do I live here???? (but then I can not stand anything over 70)

Threadjack: What *exactly* is in a mojito; is it nothing more than rum and mint?

Gluten-intolerant girlfriend would like to know, as if that is the full recipe, then it's fine; but there's always some nefarious grain product in many cocktails...

From what I know (and Ernesto can probably weigh in here) it is:

club soda
crushed ice
sugar syrup
lime juice
crushed fresh mint leaves
rum

I first had one at a trendy club downtown. It was freakin' delicious. They crusted the glass rim with sugar as well and plenty of ice and lots of mint leaves. Still the best one I've had. Have made them at home with mixed results, no pun intended.

As far as gin, I also like Bombay Sapphire. They have a very cool website, btw - http://www.bombaysapphire.com/. Each time I drink it, it reminds me of that Men At Work lyric - "Lying in a den in Bombay, with a slack jaw and not much to say..."

That's the brand, the saphire model. I started into it last night and I have one liter of tonic left, so I may just go on a bender and switch to olives.

A man after my own heart.

I love love love gin. Bombay, Beefeater, Tangueray, Sapphire. They're all good.

I like to drink my gin and tonic in a high ball or drinking glass, loaded with ice and a huge squeeze of lime.

Thumbs down *** Advertising bad enough to turn you off your favorite item... ***

Tangueray and tonic, touch of Rose's, no fruit...

Simple, neat.

BTW, who's this Tony St. James character on the Tangueray commercials? The guy acts like a freaking stuck-up twit and he laughs at his own comments...I'd expect that from some 40oz. product, not Tangueray.

Almost tacky enough for me to look into some other brand of gin...

I notice you said "almost", though Tanqueray and tonic, crushed ice and a big squeeze of lime in a 32oz. Mason jar mug is my post-lawn mowing drink of choice when it's 80*F+. Beer when it's cooler.

The Mrs. has been on a huge Mojito kick lately, and I've got to admit, I have no problem prolonging that kick and helping her perfect her recipe by taking one for the team and being a test subject. They are mighty tasty and refreshing.

Like Mojitos? Crank it up a little...

1 lime

2 ounces of cachaça

Sugar to taste

Ice cubes

Wash the lime and roll it on the board to loosen the juices. Cut the lime into pieces and place them in a glass. Sprinkle with the sugar and crush the pieces (pulp side up) with a pestle. (We have a long, wooden one from Brazil, made specifically for this purpose.) Just enough to release the juice, otherwise it'll get bitter. Add the cachaça and stir to mix. Add the ice and stir again. It is delicious and potent!

Cachaça is Brazilian sugar cane rum...a good brand is "pitu". This concotion tastes great, but will quickly send you over the edge.
