Removing dog hair from auto interior

I picked up a set of very nice leather seats for my Jetta, but am facing a bit of a dilemma in preparing them for installation. The fronts were a piece of cake, but the rears, on the carpeted backs, are thick with very small, wiry dog hairs. The vacuum cleaner won't get them, and I have tried three different types of tape, hoping they'd pull them out. Anyone got any suggestions? The seats are black and the dog hair gray/white, so it sticks out like a sore thumb.

Thanks!

I've had decent luck with a rough britsle brush type vacuum attachment.

I wonder if "Nair" or similar product would work. Probably want to test it first....maybe on your old seat backs?

Of course, then you would have to get the Nair out....

Thanks, guys. Problem with the bristle attachment on the vacuum cleaner is that it pulls and roughs up the material on the seatbacks... and Nair, I suspect, would rip the carpet up, too.

I love dogs, but boy am I glad mine don't really shed much at all!

Use a lint and hair pickup brush. Did you try duct tape and shipping tape?

I don't have the former, but yes, I tried packing and duct tape, along with some funky white vinyl tape that I found under the sink with all the other adhesives. Limited results from each... darn it! It would (will?) take hours to remove it all by hand (tweezer)...

I bought a little thing that looks like a squeegee, it was a couple of bucks at Walgreens, rub it across the seats and static electricity builds up and grabs the hair out of the upholstery...sounds like a bad infomercial but it really worked. One of my dogs ate the damn thing and I never replaced it.

In the cleaner gimmick isle at bed bath and beyond they sell a little yellow sponge called the pet sponge. It is very dense and doesn't absorb water, but it works like stink on getting up pet hair. I think it is around $5.

If you have an air compressor, blow out the affected areas and with other hand (or person), use a vacuum hose to suck it up when the fur is suspended in the air.

Works very well.

Otherwise use the lint roller method as mentioned.

Air comp. method sounds interesting... I'll give that a try, too. Shop Vac alone did NOTHING for me.

You could also try a piece of velcro, not the soft side but the harder side, if you know what I mean. Press the velcro in against the carpet where the hair is stuck. Press it in really good and then pull. The adhesive quality of the velcro should pull the hair up from the carpet.

wiry dog hair, I've had my share....

The problem with the wiry dog hair and the VW fabric is that the hairs SPEAR themselves into the fabric and it's like the hairs are barbed and they do NOT want to release. Tweezers really are about the only solution that will give acceptable results here. Sorry, been there done that.
