nascar notes

I crack up at Kevin Harvick complaining about Montoya's aggressive driving! Harvick is one of the most aggressive pricks himself. That crash on the road course last week was not in any way the fault of Montoya.

I read an article today about folks dissing Teresa E. about keeping the #8. I am no fan of her, but it is hers to do with what she wants.

I wouldn't be surprised to see jr. driving with the #3 on his car.

Being originally a road race fan, I cannot stop myslef from rooting for the oddball Robby Gordon and Montoya. I have come to respect the subtle skills necessary to win on an oval though.

Did they say that Mark Martin is now at DEI?

Jr. isn't going to mind one bit about changing numbers.

Why? Well....all those Jr. fans are now going to have to buy new T-shirts and hats and all that other junk that they sell. Smells like money to me.

Did Montoya get in trouble because of the skirmish with Harvick?

Have you ever been to a 1/4 mile race? Other than the midgets I have no idea what the cars are called but we attended a charity function last night at the local track. When we were there we were more interested in leaving I tore my favorite shorts on rusty bleacher and enjoyed $1.00 Bud Lights. I don't think you will find me wearing a NASCAR hat but we may return, the day after wifey commented that it was not that bad.

Watching those banged up Neons and Cavaliers running around that track was a hoot, the bigger cars hauled serious ass I guess 110ish on a 1/4 mile oval.

I think that is the closest I will get to liking NASCAR myself.

Nope just cars going in tight circles and some super modified tractors for half time, no commercials just burning rubber, petrol and lots of crashes they bang the hell out of each other.

villeneuve coming to nascar

I just read over on espn that Jaques villeneuve is coming to nascar. Bill Davis racing. He is going to run some truck races pretty soon.

He is a classy guy. Clean, tough, fast and he will say exactly what is on his mind!

I remember once at Cleveland the indy car race about 94 or 95 when he was new to indy cars. He was racing Robby Gordon for position. Gordon tried to intimidate him by crowding him off the track. He held position, not really doing anything dirty and when the dust settled, Jaques had the position. Although I like Robby too, I had to laugh out loud cause the new kid stood up to him and won out.

He will be a classy addition to nascar racing.

Good for the sport too to have a Canadian.....one who has also been Indy car champ, won the '95 indy 500 (I was there, and had picked him to win) and the F1 title.

For the young farts (as opposed to us old farts) out there, his father, Gilles was one of the most beloved f1 drivers who ever lived....and died.....in a Ferrari. He was absolutely fearless and died in a qualifying session in which he was running his hardest without the benefit of having his belts fastened. He got baulked by a driver who was trying to get out of the way but both decided to go for the same piece of track.

Gilles came up racing snowmobiles in the Great White North and liked to feel the machine as his body slid and slammed back and forth in it.

I am looking forward to Kevin Harvick trying to intimidate Jaques!

He stood down Schumi too to win his championship. Schumi tried a Robby Gordon type move on Jaques and ended up sitting in the dust too.

How about the rumored switch to Toyota for JGR? I know a bunch of Tony Stewart guys who are beside themselves at the possibility.

My boy Biffle continues to disappoint.

Some of the most fun I've had (and continue to have) is with my 9.5yo son at one of the local tracks. The Waterford Speedbowl is a 3/8 mile track and every Wed. night kids under 14 are free and adults are $7. They run X-Car (unmodified 4cyl. cars sans interior and glass with rollbars), Super-X (same as the X-Cars but 8 cyl.) and X-Mods (retired SK Modifieds with crate engines and tires purchased from the track). The track reserves the right to purchase any car (minus safety equipment) for $500 and after every win a car has 50lbs. of weight added to try to keep things close, as entry level racing should be.

A lot of good rubbing and racing, limited yellow flags, huge starting fields. A lot of guys obviously put a lot of time and effort into their cars.

Plus a friend of mine that I grew up with (current points leader) and also one of my customers (currently third and last year's division champ) drives in the Super-X class so everytime they win my son gets to go down to the Winner's Circle and get his picture taken with the car. It's better than Cup racing as far as he's concerned. And I'm close to agreeing with him.

My buddy's car is the red, white and blue Monte in the middle (obviously he's not one of the ones conscious about his cars appearance , the front clip is now long gone)

That looks like fun!

Most of the Tony fans will adjust if they switch to Toyota, I imagine.

Toyotas are after all made in the usa now.

A lot of them have that attitude that "(they) ain't gonna root for no < insert derogatory Japanese term of choice here > car." If they truly are Smoke fans they'd stick with him. My father stuck with Michael Waltrip. THAT hasn't been easy for him.

And aren't the Monte Carlo/Impala, Taurus/Fusion and Charger made in Canada? They used to be, I don't know if they still are.
