Looked at a C300 today...

I want!!! That new Mercedes smell is like crack! Having a MB that doesn't leak oil, rust, need work, have 200k+++ miles on it would be freaken SWEET! Plus its tight, and fast, and kind of sporty!

I want a C300 Sport, with premium package, Navi is a must, auto trans is a must, AMG package a must. Black leather, with a blue paint job, same as the SDL. I really like the sport model its much younger looking and feeling car, you can kind of tell the age group they were aiming for.

The Navi is freaken cool, you push a button on the dash and it pops out. Looks like something the aftermarket guys would do. The seven speed tranny is OK, kind of busy but its the only one you can get. Honestly I'd take a 722.6 over it, but whatever. Suspension is stiff but not harsh, dare I say almost 3 series feeling...

Maybe next year, not in the cards until school is over/paid for.

I beleive they change the suspension, brakes, and you can get AMG wheels. You also get a better IMHO steering wheel. The side skirts and bumper are more aggressive looking, different exhuast etc.

I wish they built (ok, imported to the USA) a C-class AWD diesel wagon. My purchase of an R320 CDI was mainly due to the lack of a US diesel wagon since 1987.
Also I don't get the luxury vs sport thing either... I like the hood ornament to guide one's path, and I miss it on my R.
Why "sporty" MB's can't have a hood ornament, along with the fancy grill if need be...is beyond me.
Also the C350 is only available in the Sport version.

Hatterasguy, are you going to sell that velour SDL ("money pit") when you get your new C-Class?
If I was going to wait, I would bug MB to bring over a CDI/Bluetec version.
I read in one of the car mags that a C-class with a 2.2 liter 4 cylinder CDI is in the works.

C300? Cut a 0 off the name and add CDI AMG and I'll take it.

The new C-classes look a lot better in the pictures than in person I think. They made the front end look way too chunky and bulky. The older ones (before 08) look slimmer and more athletic.

Though I havent seen the new Luxury ones, just the sport one which I think has a different front spoiler.

I like the fender flares though, they look way better than the new S-class fender flares.

After buying that '79 wagon, I fell in love again with the "old" Mercs.

If I find the right 450SLC 5.0 or possibly a Euro 6.9, even a 500E -- say goodbye to the S600.

I've seen it.

Its quite daring. Aesthetically challenged, IMHO. Too much "noise" in the design.

The new C-Class seems huge, and seems to have as much room in the cabin as the 211 E-Class. Impressive in that respect. But there is little that sets it apart stylistically from the Asian offerings.

Looking back at the 203, I actually liked the design (if a bit cramped). Too bad everything falls apart after 100K miles (interior plastic bits), but....

Also, the grille feels like it came from Fisher-Price. I guess the new front-ends are made collapsible so that some drunken dumb-a$$ doesn't get injured while attempting to jaywalk, suddenly stumbling into your creeping vehicle after boozing it up. Pedestrian safety, you know?
I say, GIVE ME DAGMARS!

No this would be an addition, the SDL wouldn't be sold to get it.

My main concerns are:
Its a small car and the rear seats are tight! Whenever we go anywhere I like to drive and with rear seats that small its not happening. I wonder if a slightly used W211 may be better for what I need.

Lack of a diesel engine. MB is supposed to bring the CDI version in for the 09 model year. A diesel engine would make a lot of sense, more so come re sale time since diesels comand such a premium in the used car market.

I love the way it looks, its a very modern design. Modern is nice IMHO. However its still a MB all the controls are where you expect them and the quality is way, way better than the last C class. I hated the previous gen C class, it was a womens car and a POS.

The salesman tried to say how great 4matic is, but I don't want an AWD car. I only maybe need it 2-3 days a year, and I don't want to live with it the 363 that I don't.

Its an expensive little car to. For what they are asking I can get a used S500, E55K, CL500, etc. Do I want the little MB or a slightly used real MB?

I got invited to the "C-Drive" last week and it was pretty nice. Full of the usual vendors and all the Fiji water you can drink. They rented out Hangar 8 at Santa Monica airport and had a motorcade led by a team leader C300 with 5 cars which followed behind.

The 7 speed is very responsive but I thought the brakes were grabby. You could see a lot of lurching cars coming out of the staging area! Even then I was very impressed with the car. The plastics and interior feel that they are of a higher quality and at least on par with the 3 series.

I only got a few shots but couldn't get any on the track since I did need BOTH hands to drive the course.

At the exit poll they ask you about advertising stuff and more information using Palm Pilots and one question is "What car do you Drive?" the default is

Make: Mercedes Benz --- Model: 6.9

That was funny.
