Visciously attacked today by two Miniature Dachunds!!

So I took Josey, my Miniature Dacshund out on the motorcycle Wednesday night to a cruise night.
We got there, and everyone loved her, and was surprised to see a dog on a motorcycle.

So a lady walks up to me and Josey and says she has two Miniature Dachunds she'd like to find homes for, and wanted to know if I was interested in taking them for free..We talked for a while and she told me about them. I thought it would be great for Josey, to have a couple of companions for our move to NorthCarolina this weekend. So, I said I'd come over today and look at them and get to know them a little with Josey.

Today came around and we went to her house this afternoon.
She had told me the dogs are "A little nippy once in a while" back when we talked on Wednesday.

As soon as I walked up they both attacked me visciously. She was holding them back, but even after I was there for a while and trying to develop a friendship with them they attacked me again and again. The two of these friggin things were total animals to me, but were ok with Josey. I have a few serious bites, on my arms, hands, my abdomin, my hips my back, thighs, and calfs. The two of them were just so mean, I could not believe they are the same breed as my Josey, who is a total sweetheart, loves everyone, and every other animal. These two were just unbelievable. I won't be taking them with Josey and I, to North Carolina.

I know they are up to date on their shots etc. but should I have these wounds looked at anyways? I have open wounds all over me. Some are worse than others, but a lot of them are open and bled out a lot before they finally stopped bleeding and scabbed up. It's still sensitive to touch them, and a few of them are pretty swelled up.. Stupid dogs!!

My opinion is YES!.. Who knows what was on their teeth.

And I would say that lady owes you for the first bites, but the rest are on you. Why would you go back for more?

Just about every dog with the word "miniature" in their name is a major candidate for behavior problems. There likely is no home suitable for those 2 dogs. Dogs like that are a serious liability. Who will they bite next?

Yes. You should probably go and have open wounds looked at.

Something you should think about next time. Defending yourself! You out weigh the things by at least 150 pounds. And - You have thumbs. Next time – Think field goal.

I don’t mean to sound cold here (well, maybe a little), but you’ve being “visciously attacked” by a pair of miniature weiner dogs. You have serious bites, on your arms, hands, abdomen, hips, back, thighs, and legs. What did you do? Lay on the floor and play dead?

Hats off to you for attempting to give these animals a new home. And we’re glad to hear they left Josey alone. But geezzz, dude. Next time, ya gotta take care of yourself, and start sling’n weinnie.

“Just about every dog with the word "miniature" in their name is a major candidate for behavior problems.” Yep – I agree, Mike.

I was “attacked” once by a little schnauzer thing. Bit my hand and latched onto my wrist. At that point, I became his personal flight instructor. He soloed first time out!

You guys are all right. I appreciate your advice on the matter. I didn't really know if I should have it looked at or not. As far as going back for more was concerned, well..I suppose I was simply attempting to befriend them and was kinda figuring they'd be willing to get to know me. Since they are such small dogs, I had to crouch down. For a few seconds, they were ok, and then they just ambushed me again. Guess it was a foolish move to actually attempt it again after the second time, but I really wanted it to work for them, me, and Josey Leigh. She had told me they'd be ok in a few minutes, and be friendlier with me the next time I tried. I was convinced and made the last attempt, and got same results. Their size, is key to my having been bitten in "high" places. Crouching down is the only way to socialize with a 4 inch tall animal when you are 5 ft. 9 in. tall. I tried to watch both of them at once while I attempted to befriend each one, but they were really quick with the "Charge and attack" moves...Feel like a fool, wounds are swelled, painful, and many are open still..Just trying to be a good person, and do something nice, and it got shoved down my throat this time by a couple of lunatic animals..

She said they only wanted to get rid of them because their daughters are grown up, and moved out and now they want time for themselves. Guess they're going to be stuck with them for a while because I'm not even thinking about ever taking such beasts..

We love animals, but there’s a point at which you have to say: “Not this animal.”

And no matter how much I love something, or how cute it is. If it’s deliberately trying to hurt me. Has done so, and is continuing to attempt to do so – It’s no holds barred. I will do what’s necessary to defend myself (or what’s mine).
If that means launching a cute little doggy – sorry….

Nik;
Like I said: Hats off for making an attempt at giving these guys a better life. But next time….be careful not to let “the second time” happen, and figure you may be better off with a “strike two, and you’re out!” attitude.

Most importantly – Go get yourself looked at. Like was said, who knows what could be in their mouths.

Animal bites can be easily treated. Animal bite infections can be quite nasty.

Ok, So I called her up last night and told her the wounds were showing signs of infection. She told me she's sorry, and to just go get whatever I need done and have the bill sent directly to her for it. I went to a doc. this morning for it and he cleaned them out and put some meds on them. He told me to just keep them covered and clean, and put some Cortizone 10 on them. He gave me a shot of something also, I think it was just tetnus shot, but the bill was $190.00 for the Sunday morning visit. It will be sent to her house and the wounds will heal.
She was a nice woman, and the dogs were kind to Josey. As long as my baby didn't get hurt, that was my biggest concern when it all happened. I was just very happy to be out of there, and won't be back there again.

Thanks so much for all of your guidance guys it's very much appreciated. Shame, but I feel those dogs should simply be put down. I don't usually EVER feel like that's a good idea, unless an animal is sick or something. In this case however, if she can't keep them she'll be looking for a long time for a new owner for them.

Sounds like those weenie dogs are bad news.

My 11 year old mini dachshund, Pee Wee, is just like yours. She is a very sweet and gentle soul. And very smart and intuitive. She understands me better than my wife. I swear.

Yeah, sounds just like Josey. She's a totally different kind of animal than the two monsters I contended with yesterday afternoon. I think I saw pics of Pee-Wee, on this site a while back on the "Dog" thread someone posted. I remember seeing pics of a red Dacshund a while back, and I think I heard the name. Just left my one of my rented storage units for the last time with the last 123 coupe I had stored in there and brought it to the house. Tonight, or tomorrow morning I leave for my move to North Carolina with what I could carry. The rest will stay behind at my house here in Ct. At first, I'm bringing just my Olds Diesel Wagon, with my 88 560 SEC, AMG, EURO car on the trailer, and my Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Motorcycle. It's a new town of which I really haven't been to down there. My nearest buddies down there are 50 miles from where I'll be living in Prospect Hill, North Carolina. OSHA is moving me down there for work and I have no ties here in Ct. aside from immediate family. Since my Fiance died back in Feb. 2006 my life has been crazy and hectic. I was living on the road in the tractor trailer, for a long time after she passed. I tried that for a while as an attempt at secluding myself from the world and being in the truck alone with Josey. It worked at first and for a long time I did ok. Then I recently came back home here to Ct. to spend time with my family and get a local job. From day one when I got back it's still been very tough, just to even drive around the area on a day to day basis. There's just so much around here to torture me and torment me. I find myself driving by our old place and places we went at random, it hurts a lot, and actually brings me to tears much of the time.

I got this government job with OSHA and I like it a lot. They offered me a position in North Carolina so I said yes. A friend of mine needs help at another, former competitor, trucking company also. He's 11 miles from my OSHA office. I'll be working my OSHA job full-time, andplaying around in my friends trucking company office, as a recruiter, and driver manager a few days a week atleast. Weather is nice down there, and I just need to find a place to live down there. In the mean time OSHA is paying for a hotel for me, 'til I find a rent or even a house to buy or something.. I hope to possibly make a life for myself in the new environment, make some new friends and even perhaps meet a good woman when I feel ok about it. In the mean time it's just Josey, my lap-top, Cell-phone, 560SEC, Wagon, Motorcycle, and I. I hope it all goes well, and I really appreciate any support I ever get from anyone.

As many of you know already, I have no money problems and I know atleast as good as many others that money will never buy a person true happiness. I'd give up anything, and everything else I ever have with no exceptions to have a chance to be with my fiance again if it were possible at all. I realize it is not, and I live from day to day and hope for the best each day of my life. Any of you guys or gals who've lost someone so important in your lives understand what exactly I'm feeling, and talking about. Sorry to be so long winded here, I suppose I've gotten a bit carried away. Sorry everyone.

Nick

That was also my sentiment here, after reading this.

"No good deed shall go unpunished".

Even looking at it in her own self interest, the owner of the dogs should NOT attempt to pawn off those vicious animals on some poor unsuspecting new owner, because in this moderately benighted society she could get sued if they bit their new master..

Very possible she is willing to pay your medical bills fast, so YOU won't sue HER.

There is a legal maxim that says "Every dog gets on free bite" before anything drastic happens.

These guys had their free bite and then some. I'm sorry it was a good guy like you.

As far as I am concerned you can put a fork in them
