1994 Geo Metro

I rebuilt a 1994 Geo Metro 1.0 L Motor. New rebored engine 20 over,New bearings, Re-built head with upgraded lifters(According to the Shop). I use 5w30 grade Synthetic oil. I have done almost 4000 miles since the rebuild. But I cannot drive the car over 55MPH for extended period in Highways. Off and on a bluish white (more white)smoke comes off the Exhaust. I notice a lot of oil in the throttle body and under the air cleaner. This is coming from the Emissions.I wonder any experts can give me some Idea. When I put a restrictions to the emission tube going to the air cleaner the oily mess in the air cleaner is reduced but the the steamy smoke comes through the Exhaust at highway speeds(Over 60 MPH).

I do not see any loss of coolent or the oil level.

The 1.0 in the Metro is a neat little engine - the only one I have ever replaced without using a cherry picker (just picked it up). The bottom ends never fail - it is usually the head and valve train that wears out, causing the bluish smoke and heavy oil consumption. Why did you overbore? What was done to the head? I don't think the guides are replaceable on that head; you have to purchase a new or remain replacement. The valve stem seals are replaceable, however.

Intake valves no doubt. Managed an automotive machine shop for a dozen years.
Lemme ask you...how many miles did you break it in for? how soon did you do the highway speed?and what grit hone was used in the rebore?
Oh,forgot...you got auto tranny with vacuum modulator?

Are you hinting at what also crossed my mind? Oil is being sucked into the intake somehow. I've heard of it coming from the transmission thru a failed modulator and I also had it travel from the pan to the intake via a failed PCV valve on an MG.

That's your problem. Never use synthetic in a new/rebuilt engine for the first 15,000 miles. It will not break-in correctly with synthetic.

Blinker fluid seepage. Gotta be. You have a leaking hydrostatic reeberstator. Check the left interlocking flimstock connector at the clyber valve. Seals go out on those all the time.

I thought it sounded like a leaky head gasket.

Seriously, what about a bad PCV valve? Really. I mean it. I'm not kidding.

A PCV valve is mainly to prevent the flame of a backfire from getting into the crankcase. Even if it was stuck open, it wouldn't cause that much oil consumption.

In any case, if they are going as far as rebuilding a 3-banger in an $700 car, I hope they would replace something as simple as the PCV valve.

It's having the valve stuck closed that creates the hijinks.
