Graphic Photo Be Aware
There was a special last night on cable entitled "Falling Man" and it was about the photographs taken of people who fell from the Towers instead of succumbing(sp) to a burning building. The difficulty several editors had in deciding whether or not to use this image was without question. I woke up several times during the night thinking about this image, it will be with me forever. I am going to put up the image, there is a very earry (sp) grace about it, a final deciding moment, a choice that needed to be made and finally a moment frozen in time that will swing like a pendulum in the recesses of my memory.forever.

I lost 2 h.s. alumns (and friends of my brother) and good friends lost their father in the WTC. We just had a town-wide picnic this past Sunday with the Air Force band as entertainment in their memory. They've set up a foundation in their memory to improve the youth facilities in town since all three of them were very active in youth athletics. It's amazing that I can remember every aspect of what I was doing that day. Never forget, indeed. But we wouldn't want those pictures to be shown anymore (directed at those in the media who think the pictures from that tragic event were inappropriate for us)

CNN showing play-by-play footage by the hour as if it just happened...and it FEELS like it just happened.
It's still haunting when you see pre-911 movies showing the Manhattan skyline and the WTC towers are prominently looming in the background...feels like a loss of innocence.

I can still vividly recall the detached sense of being stunned and numb, watching the TV footage. I worked in a small downtown firm at that time, and I remember our President and CEO and VPs, etc. all crowded around our small TV room, their faces gaunt. As I walked into the room, my VP told me "a plane has crashed into the twin towers" and I saw the image of the tower, smoke billowing. Then a few seconds later, the second plane came. I'll never forget watching that live. Everyone was silent and grave, after it happened, we all just walked around like zombies, until eventually we were sent home. Some made calls to friend and relations in NY.
A horrid, tragic day.

I remember walking home from Georgetown across Key Bridge and being able to see and smell the smoke from the Pentagon. It was horrible, the silence was deafening.

While my family did not lose anyone on 9/11, my wife and I lost our annual joy... it's our wedding anniversary. It was impossible to be joyful on that day and every year since has been the same. What is supposed to be a joyful wedding anniversary day is now always filled with sorrow for those who did lose loved ones.
Solemnly, Jeff

It may well be the Pearl Harbor of this generation, a defining event.
No American can ever forget this horrible tragic event and the twisted hatred that precipitated it.

My wife, pregnant with our daughter at the time, was painting our living room and just happened to have the tv on. We were having our monthly Board of Directors meeting and were just on our way in when my wife called to say that a plane had flown into the WTC. At the time it was still reported to be an isolated accident by a sight-seeing plane. When the second tower was hit she called back in tears. At that point we adjourned the meeting and went into one of the small offices where we have a tv and watched for awhile. We eventually sent everyone home. I went home and just sat on the couch and watched, mouth agape. That's when the speculation that the tower might come down began, and then down they came.
The father of our friends (who had coached me at every stage of youth basketball and soccer) had a sales meeting on the 99th floor of the tower that day. His meeting was supposed to be the preceeding Monday but got postponed. He was so excited as it was his first time going to the towers. The two kids from my high school worked in the second tower (different companies) and we friends of my brother dating back to his youth soccer days.

I was on the phone arguing with Verizon Wireless and looked at my office TV and the second plane slammed into the building, ironically the Verizon building was in the foreground.

My experiences
I was driving on the West Side Highway (Henry Hudson) in the city on a beautiful fall day when I got a phone call from the office. The guy on the phone told me that a plane had just flown into the WTC. As it was a clear day, nobody could figure out what had happened. I thought that maybe it was a small plane who had gotten too close and hit a tower accidentally.
As I was on the phone about 100 police cars and fire trucks sped by me. I decided not to go to the office, which was on 26th and park Avenue So, and instead went to our data center, which was about 15 blocks from the WTC. I parked in an outside lot and walked over to the data center building. As I was walking I could see the smoke and fire from the first hit. I went into the data center and then most of my staff and I went outside and stood in a small park that had a direct view of the towers. As we were standing there we saw the second plane hit. We were all shocked and amazed that this could be happening. As we stood there I remarked that the fires did not look too bad and seeing as 100 fire trucks has passed me, I could not see how the fires would take more than 1/2 hour to be put under control. As I said this the first tower came down. I was stunned and we all started crying (yes I will admit it, I was bawling like a baby) Soon after that the second one fell. As the towers fell, they hit the ground so hard that the data center building, which was very heavily built shook like a palm tree in a storm. I evacuated all my guys and shut the place down. I then walked to my friend Sue who lives on 24th street with a great view of downtown. She was also bawling as she had seen the first plane hit while she was watering her plants and had been on the phone with Channel 2 describing what she saw when the other plane hit. My best friend Bill was working for the FDNY managing their command center in Brooklyn. He saw what was gong on and knew in his heart that his ex-wife, who worked in Tower2 on the 79th floor must have been killed. However, Lorraine, who had lived through the 1993 bombing, saw the first plane hit and grabbed as many people as she could and got them to the stairs. Almost all the way down, a bright young cop told her and her gang to go back upstairs as it was safer in the building. Some of her coworkers turned around but she very politely told the cop to F--- off and headed outside. As she went out, the second plane hit and an engine almost fell on her. I was one of the lucky ones as I had friends in both buildings and all of them got out safely. I can remember very clearly the quiet of Manhattan that day as we all walked uptown. There was no noise except for the Navy jets that were circling the city. One of my guys was an ex-Marine and he went to the site immediately to help. I walked up to my girlfriend's apartment on E94 street and camped out there for a couple days. I then went downtown to help out as well. When I was able to get back to my car, it was covered in gray ash, which I am sure consisted of the remains of those poor people in the towers that did not get out. My friend Bill's house in Bay Ridge was covered in paper that had blown over. Every time I look downtown it hits me. The city still looks like it has had something ripped out. I was down there the other day, closer than I had been to the WTC since those days and I was disgusted with what I saw. It has been turned into a tourist spot complete with vendors selling little models of the towers, but what really burned me up was a bunch of Middle Eastern (looking) kids in their 20's with tee shirts with the towers in flames high-fiving each other as they took pictures by Century_21 (a large store that was across the street from the WTC) I looked at a cop and he said he sees this kind of behavior all the time. Just had to get this out there...

It still makes me so angry that I cannot watch the movies made about the Towers and the aircraft that went down in PA. I want the people involved all dead or retired to goat-herding. I'd prefer they be dead.
