Whats right is right

Had a very uplifting experience at Staples yesterday. 2 days ago I bought office supplies and had a big box of copy paper on top of the cart. For some reason the clerk didn't scan the paper and when I got to the shop, we saw that I hadn't paid for the paper. Yesterday I went back to the store and went to the checkout and told them what happened, and said I wanted to pay for the paper. The clerk looked at me like I was an alien. Another clerk came over and asked if he heard right,,, that I was coming back to pay for something that I wasn't charged for. In the end, the assistant manager and 2 clerks were thanking me profusely for my honesty, and all I could say was "whats right is right." It was a very satisfying experience, and it was very sad at the same time. They must suffer many, many losses to make such a fuss over one honest person.

As Mark Twain said....."always do what is right, it will gratify your friends and confound your enemies." or something like that.

I am sure B will correct this.

Good job.

I have always hated the phrase "no good deed will go unpunished".

Sacrificing integrity has a price and yours is not a box of paper, it does feel better and rewarding to do something good than rip someone off.

And then they $h!t-canned the clerk that rang you up the first time. Just kidding

Good for you. I know I've done similar things in the past and it does feel good. I even mistakenly billed a golf course customer for a half dozen 3/4" hoses instead of the 1" hoses he picked up. About a $560 difference in his favor. Yet he called me to be sure that we sent him a corrected invoice. There is something to be said for Karma.

It's the right thing to do. You made a deal, you need to stick with it the best you can. It's also capitalism in action. Survival of both parties depends on mutual cooperation and creating win-win situations.

Can't wait for aklim to counter that argument.
