That absolutely must be a joke site. If not, then that's the most pathetic thing I've ever seen,, since when does professional courtesy = complete immunity from speeding or other highway offences? (not only for every type of law/enforcement/prison officer but for their wives and sons as well!)

All I can say to this cop is welcome to reality and get a feel for what is like for the common folk. This guy should do what most people do (well it works for me), plead not guilty and get to court early to have a chat with the trooper to plead down the ticket to a lesser charge before facing the judge. As long as you are polite, cooperative, and apologetic most law enforcement will work with you. It also helps if you have a relatively clean driving record.

I have several friends and my brother's 2 BIL's and FIL are all officers and they do expect favors if pulled over (mainly speeding related-they expect about a 20mph cushion) and reciprocate in return. I've never seen (or heard about) them not get out of a ticket and have witnessed it first hand on a couple ocassions. It's usually just a matter of handing their badge over with their license and registration.

With the city and town officers it's common practice, but state troopers don't abide by the same code and rookies may not be aware of the practice yet.

I think everyone probably knows or suspects it's going on,,,,which is bad enough,,,, what's pathetic is that there is actually a website where they can all whine like little *****es about it to each other.

It is considered a fringe benefit of being a police officer in this country to never be written for speeding. A website to complain and whine about getting the same treatment that civilians get for breaking the law is pretty amazing.

But the Police culture is VERY different than others. see: www.officer.com forum. In their world there are only TWO groups of people: The Police, and everybody else. More than a few of them feel they personally are above the laws that apply to everyone else. A siege mentality.

Since they have the freedom to take liberty and life away from citizens, they are subject to more scrutiny than other groups. They are very aware of this.

Without even looking to see if this was near Chicago, I would bet that LSD means Lake Shore Drive.

Well that's a bit of a relief but after I've gotten a few tickets for slowing to 2 mph instead of a complete stop at a stop sign, the thought of anyone getting let go for doing 150 on any public roadway is a bit hard to take.

I'm fully aware that a society w/o cops -- say Somalia -- would be far worse than what we have to put up with, I get a bit rankled at the attitude of these guys.

About a week ago, I was on El Camino, the old highway before the freeway, in Menlo Park waiting to make a left turn. For some reason, when the main light turned green, I saw that but not the smaller red arrow for the turn lane. There was no traffic for more than a block coming in the opposite direction and the traffic to my left was stopped behind the red. I made the turn, saw the arrow in mid turn and thought, OH SITH, but I quickly realized there was no more danger involved than making a turn on a green w/o the arrow feature.

I figured I'd be all right, no cops in my mirror so I pulled over to park maybe 50 yards past the intersection as I was going into a nearby store. Whoops, there was a cop watching the intersection and after I unbuckled my seatbelt, there he (they, 2 in one car) was with the spotlight on me. I freely admitted that I had accidentally run the arrow but that I had taken my belt off after parking. I sat there for a full half hour, with the 500+ watt spotlight on me the whole time, and the punk (one was a rookie I'm pretty sure) gave me a ticket for no belt as well, writing on the ticket that I had said I wasn't wearing my belt. I actually said the opposite.

I had some sharp words with them about why it took so long, "What, we have a creative writing class going on here?" Ruined my frickin' night, the store closed while I was waiting and I needed the groceries.

With any luck, I'll beat the seatbelt part, last thing I need is 2 points on my record at once for my insurance company to feast on. The dude should have taken my word on the belt. It was totally plausible, people park and unhook their seatbelt all day long.

What can one expect from a Cretin?

The same thing happened to me. I took my belt off to reach into my pocket to get my access card out, I live in a gated community. The POS officer pulled up and gave me a ticket for an illegal turn and no seat belt. After I told him I took it off to reach into my pocket. What a dick.
Next time adjust your mirror to shine the light back at them. They really like that a lot.
