I am having a problem with mold on my roof, googleing provides many remedies and the most common one is plain ol vinegar. I don't have a problem on on roof and a hand sprayer but the other roof is too steep to walk on and would require D-rings and climbing apparatus and I don't want to be a statistic so I am think something that would work with the pump on my power washer or garden sprayer.

Thoughts ol wise one?

Mold is caused by not enough sun on that area. Simply rotate your house so as to get more sunlight on that side.

We tried that but I am not going through another remodel.

I have it on my roof too. Since I have a 12/12 pitch, I am not climbing on it though.

I am counting on acid rain to clean it off!

Seriously though, it is sixteen years old. I am not really counting on a whole lot more life from it.

Looks like I'm giving vinegar a shot.

I'd think you'd have better results with a dilute mixture of bleach rather than the vinegar.

I would be reluctant to use anything other than water in a pressure washer...low pressure.

Vinigar might be ok....

Bleach too if diluted enough, I suppose...

If you post a picture of where you need to get on your roof I might be able to offer some advice. National Ladder and scaffold sells roof hooks. You mount the aparatus onto the ladder. Basically it turns an extension ladder into a nice little scaffold. I use them all the time when I am painting homes. They make the job safer and easier. The hook has a roller on the backside, you roll the ladder on this wheel up to the peak of the roof upon reaching the peak of the roof you flip the ladder and you are good to go.

I think you might have a greater chance of damaging the roof by walking on it than from the mold.

Mold, or moss?
Moss was a constant problem when I lived in W. Washington. (It rains there a bit). Bleach will kill it. There's moss killer that lasts a little longer than bleach. Best bet is zinc strips.

That is interesting. The disappearance of the mold is no guarantee of success..........

As mentioned, however, do you have "mold" or "moss"...........two different problems.........

Some shingles are impregnated with something to prevent mold and moss. I'm not sure what it is, but maybe there's a way to get that in some form that can be applied to your shingles. Maybe Tom W knows what I'm thinking about.

Too funny!

Good luck getting rid of it. You probably never will. I own a pressure washer service, and speaking with others in the field, you will find that you will NEVER really be able to get rid of it completely. It might look like it's gone, but it will be back in a few years. The only way to get rid of it is to remove the infected area (new roof). Good luck!
