Blackwater and job security

Oh man, Blackwater has received close to a $Billion in US contracts in Iraq and their behavior almost insures that Iraqis will continue to hate us. Ergo, ipso fatso, we'll need more steel plated security for diplomats, major players, etc.

Can you imagine having foreigners in our country who demand that they have their own fast lane so as to avoid danger and who come up behind you and bump you until you get out of their way? Not to mention shooting from moving vehicles, etc.

And we get irate about UN personnel ignoring parking tickets.

Yes. It appears to be true.

Around here you cannot shoot game from the car. I think use of outfits such as Blackwater is unconstitutional. Our military activities are supposed to fall under civilian control and under congressional oversight. This clearly subverts that.

Not surprising really, this administration is pretty much addicted to ignoring the constitution.

Isn't using mercenaries a sign of decline in the nations that employ them? It seems like I got that idea from something I read . . .

That's why I think we should be allowed to carry guns and shoot UN personnel when we see them do stupid things in their automobiles.

You need to read The Constitution. Companies like Blackwater have been doing work for the DSS since Nam.

Blackwater had a good start and was hiring the cream of the crop but since demand increased they are hiring every specialist and PFC that shows on on their door step so now quality is dropping.

Get used to it. The military is only going to get more privatized. That was one of the goals of this war, IMO.
And the 2nd Amendment pretty much says anyone can be an army.

How much would they have to pay you to put your life on the line like that? And why wouldn't a regular soldier be tempted to jump ship and join Blackwater?

I just had the thought, "Boy, I wouldn't want to be the guy who has to fire those Blackwater guys!" Can you imagine having to fire somebody who was an ex-SEAL, ex-Green Beret, etc?!

Good question. A little disclaimer first: Most of the people that work for Blackwater are honorable and patriotic just like a Soldier on the US Payroll and join Blackwater and other PMC for various reasons ie retirement, injury and some are in it for the money.

With that said you have to look at how many Soldiers do stay with their perspective units IE Ranger, SF the reason is that they are in it for their country and money is not the issue. It may be hard to fathom but people put themselves in harms way for their country not the thrill of combat or getting shot at if money or thrills was the case the entire military would be privatized.

In short: Esprit de Corp

Outsourcing. That's pretty much what brought about the end of the Roman Empire.
