yellow cars?

Ever notice it seems like a high percentage of the really nice, low mileage, original old cars are yellow? This goes back years ago to 60's vintage Mustangs I was looking at in the 70's, ... pick your brand. Is this like the in the Repo Man movie finding the pine tree air fresheners is all his cars?

This link was entered in our cars for sale section today:

1980 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbo FOR SALE! Low Miles.

Not making fun of this listing, it is a very nice looking car, but it is yellow too. Not sure I would ever drive a yellow car.

Chuck

For modern sports cars, wasn't yellow the color made popular by Ruf?

I don't mind yellow cars if it is a nice shade, what gets me are the ones in School Bus/Taxi yellow cars that have been popping up the last few years. I keep wanting to try and flag one down screaming "TAXI"

The first car pictured is actually ivory. If it seems that there are a lot of old benzos that color I would bet you could find that it was the most popular color in the eighties. Personally in the thirty or so benzes I have owned I bet ten or so have been ivory. I like it very much but the maple yellow is my favorite color for old benzes.

When I went shopping in California for my first Mercedes back in about 1980 I was after a W123 NA diesel.

Just about every one seemed to be maple yellow. It was like it was the default color or something. I almost went for a pearl gray 1977 W123 240D manual that an Air Force guy at Travis AFB was selling. It had about 120k on it and it was absolutely mint, mint, mint.

I buy property by location and cars by condition. If color is really important to you, you might be a girl.
