Still alive & well

Hello fellow folks. I'm very pleased to announce that I am still a member of the living & breathing.
Last Sunday morning, while working on planting a tree, I broke out in a terrible sweat accompanied by extreme weakness. I knew something was wrong, so I went inside & laid down to relax. After about 1/2 hour it became obvious to me something was severely wrong. I called my dear wife for help, and we were on the way to the hospital in short order.
The emergency room staff @ Montgomery General whisked me right in, hooked me up, and surer than he!! I was having a pretty substantial heart attack. They gave me more medicines than I can recall very rapidly, and within maybe 1/2 hour I was on a helicopter headed to Washington Hospital Center & a waiting surgical staff.
My right main artery was about completely clogged. I now have 2 stents installed. I was awake through almost all of the procedure. One day in ICU, 2 days in the cardiac ward, and yesterday afternoon I came home with a whole new respect for the value of life.

God bless all the folks in the medical profession.

Humbly alive,
David

Close call, glad to hear you are doing better! Are they planning on doing a bypass in the future?

Glad you're okay, David. It's great what doctors can do now. My dad died from a heart attacka9 years ago. There are a lot more treatment options available now.

Thank goodness you got immediate help. Waiting too long to get help when a heart attack occurs can equal death. Mind if I ask how old you are?

I guess everyone over the age of 40 or so should become familiar with terms like 'stroke' and 'heart attack', and what the warning signs are. Its surprising how many people, even ones in good shape, are hit with this. Glad you are OK.

If you're out of shape like i was, you better check yourself BEFORE age 40. i had my first heart attack at 39, and my grandfather had his first at 38. If you have a family history of heart disease, you should probably get checked out by a cardiologist ASAP. Don't wait for symptoms to occur.

On that note, a guy who was a year ahead of me in H.S. (so he must be 38ish) had a heart attack a couple of weeks ago. He works for the town on the road crew and works out religiously, both cardio and weight training, and is also a firefighter. It's almost one of those times when you just say "when it's your time, it's your time" so why bother with the diet and exercise routine. However, I'm not one to tempt fate any more than I have to.

Wow! Glad you didn't just sit back and "ride it out". I would have pretty much attributed your symptoms to "heat stroke"...not "heart stroke".

I'm kind of hyper-sensitive to heart-related matters, so I've been more proactive able going to the doctor the last few years. My dad died when he was in his fifties. I would like to beat his record by as wide a margin as I can.
