more Windows XP IE goofiness

My PC throws an error about half the time when I close an IE 7 browser window. I can keep using other windows and I can launch new windows. If I click [send] or [don't send], all IE windows close. I expect that to happen if I click [send] or [don't send], but why am I getting errors when closing browser windows? Even when there isn't an error, the frame of the window I just closed hangs around for 5-10 seconds before disappearing. I have Windows update enabled.

Then on my wife's Dell laptop with IE 6, the browser randomly jumps to Dell's home page. It's not the default home page and it started doing this after about a year since it first went into service. She has Windows update disabled.

SBC Yahoo on-line protection says both PCs are clear.

Scrap the IE and use Mozilla Firefox. I got sick and tired to IE with its problems and security issues.
