Any 107 280sl experts out there?
I was wondering about the weight of them, and if they have lsd?
and possibly looking for a scruffy one to pop my 280e motor into for autocrossing. Tom W

Tom, I've been thinking about making an AX car out of an old W123 parts car here. It's either that or a sawzall party soon.
What wheel/tire/suspension combo are you running? |

1" lowering springs from eibach (?) or m and h. 14" bundts 225/50, hoosier slicks. Bilstein hd on front koni reds on back. welded rear end (I don't think I recommend the welded rear end). Stock euro 280 motor.
Last time I ran I was bracketed by two heaviliy modified mustangs running ESP class. Tom W

Very cool.
I plan on using some W126 vented front brakes from another donor car. I'm also thinking of using the 617 from the SD and setting up the transmission for quick shifts. Looking for a hi numerical diff and really short tires to go with it. Might pull good to 40mph or so... LSD is so rare in the needed ratio for this app. Did you find the welded rear end any better than the peg leg? Welded may just slow the diesel down coming out of the turns. |

I am not sure if the welded rear is an overall improvment or not. I cannot help the front end from pushing with it on slow turns. There may be a way to combat this, like larger tires on the front or perhaps tying up the rear end so that when it leans it will pick up the inside wheel on the rear. So I am weighing my options and thinking of next year.
I am looking around for a 280sl that is suitable to set up as a dedicated autocrosser, hopefully with lsd. Tom W

I think these chassis all suffer from a bit of understeer. |

Finding a larger bar is a problem.
I didn't have a problem with understeer before welding the rear end. Tom W
