Jehovah's Witnesses at my Door

JW: We invite people to be open minded

K: I am, great! Let's swap ideas. I'll come to your church, you come to my temple!

JW: Oh, we can't do that.

Went to a lecture by ??? this week. His book, "The Year of Living Biblically" was just published. He's a secular Jew who decided to spend a whole year following the rules of the Bible. He had to read the whole Bible to carry out his plan. He says he can engage in biblical discussions so well now, that the JW's actually have to excuse themselves from his home once he wears them out.

Once had a JW in a Comparative Religion class who claimed it was against her religion to fulfill the class requirement of attending a religious ritual of a different religion than her own. I disagreed with the interpretation of her religion, finding no obligation not to attend other religious rituals in JW. She ended up dropping the class, looking for a more enlightened instructor.

I always do this...

If it is a JW, I tell them that I have the answer they are looking for and that it is found in the Book of Mormon
I then try to get them to read MY tracts! It shuts them up every time.
In fact it just happened to me this week outside Union station in D.C. I kept following the JWs telling them to give up heresy!

If the callers are Mormons, I tell them that the true path to paradise is found ONLY through the JW's. I have some pamphlets from each of them and I try to force them on my "saviors".

Works every time.

I have also tried to extol the virtues of Amway to telemarketers.

TM: "Have you heard about this lat..."

Me: "Let me tell you how you can achieve financial independence buying the products you use every day"

TM: "what?"

Me: " I have the ability to let you in on the best kept secret to achieving wealth and happiness..."

TM: " gotta go now..."

Me" NO, WAIT, let me tell you tiered direct marketing..."

HANG UP!

Works every time...

Shouldn't they be trying to cull the herd since only 144,000 will be going to heaven anyway?

I can't believe they showed up again.

The JW's actually have all but rescinded that 144,000 thing from what I hear. It was causing obvious issues within thier followers, let alone in trying to gain new ones.
I've usually been able to end the conversation with them by telling them I'm a Mormon If that doesn't work, I just start telling them the similarities between us and them(there are a few). I do try and be courteous, as "we" have some 10's of thousands of our own young people out doing the same thing they are.
I know it's annoying to have religions knock on your door. I did my 2 year mission(in Houston Texas) back when I was 19. I absolutely HATED door knocking. Every door I ever knocked on, I did it with a knot in my stomach, for 2 years! But, we feel it's our job. Hard to really explain to others, but we beleive that if we don't do what we need to, to tell others about what we believe, that we'll be held acountable. And the JW's have the same beleif on the matter.
So, TRY and at least act civil to these folks.
Oh, and if the JW's have come around, expect the Mormon missionaries any time soon. It seemed we were always just behind them when I was going door to door.
"You guys were just here last week!"
"No sir, that was probably the Jehovahs Witnesses. We're the Mormons."
"well, I'm STILL not interested!" -SLAM-

You're lucky they didn't assign you to the Tehran mission.

I used to have long conversations with the varying Mormon missionaries who frequent our neighborhood until my last encounter. One of the two was an unusually thoughtful young man who was seriously pondering the problem of evil until his partner realized he was peering over the abyss and dragged him away.

Love to do to them what Rex Kramer does to them in the airport in the movie Airplane But instead I just don't answer the door

Yeah, it WAS difficult to be 19, a male human, AND spiritual all the time.
Especially when an attractive female answered the door
Especially when they were in a bikini, where the tag had more cloth in it than the whole bikini did

We have a joke in our church: "The church MUST be true, or the missionaries would have destroyed it a long time ago."

I’m sorry but if I did not invite you over or call you, don’t come over or call me trying to sell something. I do not care if it is religion or floor cleaner. You will get a serious attitude from me especially if I had to get my tired butt out of a comfy chair to answer the phone or the door.

My sister and her husband lived in Big Bear California. Down the street from them was a JW temple. Every now and then on a Sunday they would go door to door to sell their stuff. It was my sisters one day off and they liked to sleep in. My brother in law who was in his 60‘s at the time had a plan. Door bell rang at 08:00 on Sunday. He goes to the door and answers it. They looked like they had seen a ghost and never came back again ………. Ever!!!! He was naked. Not many folks want to see a mid 60’s something naked man at 08:00. My sister said she has not laughed that hard since. She said the look on their faces was one of those Kodak moments.

.
Completely understandable. Exactly why I didn't enjoy doing it. I know how I feel when it happens to me. But,well, neither us, nor the JW's are going away. It's a fact of life that we'll be knocking on your door eventually.
