40' Diagonal may not sound like news . . . but full HD, power consumption of 90W or less and . . . 1 cm thick?

90W consumption for a 40' LCD would be amazing! 90W for 40" is still pretty good considering the 24" I'm looking at takes 110w.

Cool panel! This is good news...I'm looking to buy an LCD, so hopefully the 'must-have' crowd will jump on these, further devaluing existing, and now horrendously thick, LCD panels.

I'm in the market for a 50" television, and I have pretty much decided against the LCD.

I compared a Sony LCD with a Panasonic plasma side by side, and the color of the plasma is just very noticeably better than the LCD. Plus, a football game was on, and the LCD's blurred with the action.

I want to know what they are doing for the backlight. I am guessing LED's. Too thin for flourescent. 90W does not seem that amazing. My 32" Sony LCD used 60W (It had a higher number stamped on the back but it only used 60W).

As far as the color, the way they are adjusted (or rather not adjusted) in the store makes it hard to impossible to make comparisons about color etc. As far as blurring, HD signals are compressed and have motion artifacts, but this has nothing to do with the set. These motion artifacts will look the same on LCD or plasma. If the LCD set had 6 or 8 ms response time then it will not impart motion effects. I don't want to say you are wrong but I think you should look again with the expectation that both sets will have equal motion effects and see if they look different the second time. The "LCD blur" has been solved a year or more ago.

I know that adjustment plays a part, but every review I've read on the internet, explains how plasma tv's put out better color. Also, what else do I have to go by but what my eyes tell me when I'm looking at the sets in the stores?

I've read that the LCD blur problem has been solved, but it certainly hasn't to my eyes. I see motion blur on every LCD I've seen on display recently when watching football.

I am happy with the LCD tv my dad bought, 32" Vizio. To me, and super thin LCD scares me, what happens when the thing breaks?

Panasonic Plasma is indeed a good choice, I replaced my ageing SONY 53" Kirrara Basso RPTV with the one above, closest to CRT performance when it comes to moving objects and way better than LCD in terms of color as well as motion. Blacks( color ) are just fantastic with the Panasonic.

There are a couple exciting technologies coming in the next couple years.

SED - a phospher based display could be as thin as 1/8". It reduces the off-axis viewing problems of LCD and Plasma but suffers the same burn-in problems of traditional phospher tubes.

IMOD - a reflective/transmissive technology promises a much more vivid image with none of the motion artifacts of LCD. It can also be viewed in direct sunlight. Look for this first, in personal video devices and cell phones.

Personally, my 15 year old 25" TV is still working fine and I'll probably hang on to it until it dies. If it comes down to it, I'll buy an HD converter for it.
