Porter Wagoner Rememberance Day

All of you who know who Porter Wagoner was, please take a moment to reflect on his life and his music, and the fact that he was instrumental in bringing us the lovely and immensly talented Dolly Parton.

You never cease to amaze me, Bill. I'll take my imaginary hat off to Porter Wagner and throw back a glass to Bob Wills this pm too:D

I'm no country music fan, but he was a big name in that genre, that's for sure. A tip of my imaginary hat, as well!

Mistress 10-30-2007 10:25 AM

I'll slam down a shot of Southern Comfort and reflect as well.

Dee8go 10-30-2007 10:29 AM

Is that real or imaginary Southern Comfort?

"The Green, Green Grass of Home"

I remember his syndicated series on Saturday evenings when I was a kid, back when every "country" TV show set included a barn, hay bales, and at least one wagon wheel. If it didn't have all of those items, and a guest shot from "Big Bad John" singer/future sausage magnate Jimmy Dean, it wasn't a "country" show.

From what I hear, we should tip our hats to Porter for yet another reason. The rumor has always been that he did a lot more with Dolly Parton than showcase her talent. . . .
.

Dee8go 10-30-2007 11:59 AM

Are you implying that his help was "tit for tat?"

Dee8go 10-30-2007 12:00 PM

Well, we managed to turn this thread into a discussion involving sex in just six replies.

I'll remember Porter with you Bill! :)

There's a reason why I feel close to Porter; in the E True Hollywood Story of Dolly Parton, they interviewed Porter and he was wearing a shirt that is exactly like a shirt I have. I'm wearing it today and I have a candle burning on my desk.

Dee8go 10-30-2007 04:46 PM

Kuan 10-30-2007 04:46 PM

I remember listening to Islands in the Stream and having dreams of Dolly Parton doing the backstroke.

Dee8go 10-30-2007 04:47 PM

Oh, Sorry. You said "Don't go there.":D

She would have to be on her back to get deep enough into the water to perform a stroke.

To those of you who sincerely cared about Porter Waggoner, I apologize for my irreverance. "Lord please forgive me and bless all the pygmies in Africa . . . "
