One of these days someone is going to screw up it will not be discovered in time.
I liked when the air force flew out 6 or so nuke missiles and left them on a tarmac in a B52 for 8 hours or so and no one knew they were there. |
Capt. Homer Simpson, reporting for duty sir . . . .

I used to think the Russians were bad with nuclear subs and oh power plants...

Hold on a minute, I've been there....not on that boat, but one of the same vintage/design/class....
The guys that blew off the primary samples for a month ! Yeah, they deserve to get busted. That is a 30 minute evolution that requires contacting at least one duty officer, 2 or 3 watchstanders and should be attended by the senior enlisted man on watch in the engine room......AND done every day. OMG. My point is, that in order for the ELT's to blow off taking this sample, and not get caught, the entire engineering department (normally 50 people or so...) would have known. Nukes get this "integrity" think beat into them in training. The guy who started the navy nuke program was anal about responsibility, double checks, and a lot of things I see in things like ISO certification (record keeping, inventory control, QA, procedures...) I have no sympathy for the guys that blew this off, the guys that were complicit and the Engineer/CO that allowed it to happen, oh man....I wouldnt even want to be on the same coast as that boat if I were still in (which shiznit storms on one sub it storms on all of them...) Note the text about halfway down the article though - the problem was caught by an outside review of the boat that is part of procedure....Hyman Rickover's (guy who pushed nuclear propulsions) system worked. This is why I don't fear a US nuclear sub having a reactor incident - I've been there, and there is no place else like it (I even miss it sometimes...) -ET2/ss John |
Sir, theres a weird humming noise coming from the glowing thingy.

My dad served on one as well, thats pretty much what he said after reading that. The whole department knew about it, if not everyone on the ship. |
