The top 20% of people in the country, based upon income, pay 80% of the tax.

If you eliminate the tax structure as we currently have it.......and tax spending........the burden of the tax shifts toward the lower economic classes. This is exactly what is not desirable.

Naturally, you can argue that the current system whereby the top wage earners pay the largest tax burden is unfair. But, the alternative is to have folks earning $50K per year paying $20K in taxes.

Don't believe the BS that the flat tax on consumption can survive on a rate of 17% or so........as claimed. That'll never happen.

No it does not break down quickly. Please read up on FairTax.

I like him but I think that'd be a good bet to take. I don't think he'll be nominated, let alone elected.

The wealthy have lots of loop holes, and the poor don't make enough to be taxed.

The poor get hit with a 15% earnings tax which has no deductions. It's convenient to forget about that when we're talking about taxes.

Well I hate the idea of income tax period, but if they are going to do it, it should at least be a flat tax.

I think a consumption tax would hurt for the short term but help long term. The problem is that most people don't realize that the government gets about half of what they make in taxes. So a 20% consumption tax would kill spending and the economy for the short term.
