What a great opportunity to teach kids about taxes! Don't forget the candy tax!!!
I took it upon myself to give my kids a good life lesson and took a big ol' handful of candy out of each of their plastic pumkin containers. My 8yoD was incensed, my 10yoS just looked bewildered and my 5yoS just gave me more. :)
I told them to get used to it. It only gets worse and the IRS takes a whole lot more. OTOH I did decrease their sugar/calorie intake by 15-20% and am willing to sacrifice my body in order to make them healthier.:D My kids don't get candy that often so they tend to go overboard on Halloween and the few days following. I feel kinda bad for my 10yoS's teacher, the kid can't sit still to save his life to begin with. I can only imagine him on a sugar rush. |
Wow, I just had a flashback! My parents imposed the same "candy tax". I almost forgot about it. The "tax" always ended up being ALL my peanutbutter cups:mad:
I still have a few years to go before I can try it with my kids.;) |

PB Cups do kick, but I tend to go for a wide variety to cover as many vices as possible in one shot. My 1.5 yoS went as Elmo and people kept forcing candy on him even though we didn't have a basket for him and he was just tagging along for the walk in the stroller. Their donations will not go to waste, though! |
Teach them to grow their own snacks.
