300cdt 1982 inner window rubber seals

Mechanic tried to sell me rubber seals for front windows for $500.00 per window not including labor. He said they were rare because they were for the two door coupe 300cdt. Is that hogwash? He seems honest. I need to replace the seals, but not for that price.

Thanks for any feedback.

Hogwash!
Nay....more than hogwash.
Call Phastlane Phil - have him sell you one for around $150 with free shipping.

expensive weatherstriping?

well in my opinion maybe a little high, however don't know the mechanics situation, maybe he just trying to make a little profit, (darn capitlist). I paid over $ 800.00 for just the new OEM window weatherstriping from my local mercedes dealership. My understanding is that the aftermarket stuff (if its available), is inferior to the OEM. My car is a 83 CD., hate to see someone write off a mechanic if he's close to the OEM price!:confused:

In my opinion, you are correct, when you wrote "a little high". Yes, I think the mechanic was "a little high".
150 vs. 500 (or 800!) That's more than just a little profit.
I suppose if you have a pristine car, that might appear at the Concours someday, you can justify spending the extra money on genuine MB seals (better save the receipt as proof); but most of us don't have an extra 350 or more to spare on getting what may or may not be a superior seal.

It's not like MB has the integrity it used to - I can see them stooping down and using the same manufacturing plant that APA uses. ;)

I bought the outer seal at the Santa Monica dealership for $15 each, the rear window outer seal was $125 each, both Mercedes brand. Can't believe the inner
strips are $500 or even $300.

whoops - I thought we were talking windshield seal - guess it was just me.

(I have the windshield seal on the brain, since I am planning to replace mine this weekend - That's my excuse, and I'm stickin' to it:D)

Okay, so $400 to $500 per window seal...OUCH!!!!! 300cd seemed like a cool option minus the expense of harder to get parts. I think my next will be a 300d turbo.
