Helped out a fellow Mercedes Owner

Here is the story:

My mom asks me to drive her to the store to buy some milk. So she is in the store and I wait outside in the Benz. A fellow with a 190E makes a comment to another guy and says "Thats a nice car over there.. that turbo diesel lasts forever".

Well I ask him if he is interested in coming to the GTG and he gets excited about the car show and didn't know these things would be happening so close to his home. We get to talking and he loves his 190E since he commutes in it alot. He is a pastor and has two churches in FL.. both quite a distance from each other. His other car an 01 Cadillac he bought new already has 250k on the clock! So the 190E is used to offset those commuting miles.

He told me the other day he was looking an an 06 S500 and fell in love with it but knew it was high maintenance. I told him about the virtues of owning a classic. I mentioned that the W126 S-Class is what he would love since they are so classy and great to work on.

He also has someone work on his car and such. When I told him I work on my Benz by myself and have done a ton of work on it with the help of my great friend he was ecstatic. He was like where can I get this or that.. So I told him about our site, gave him my email and phone number... He needs some interior pieces and Eagleco-94 has a 190e he is parting out that is the same interior color I think.. So I will stop by in winter haven if he is around tomorrow to get the parts Bishop needs (its Pastor Bishop)...

I have free time and I can always help him out.. even though I don't know the gasser.. We have mountains of info here.

I think I got him interested in the 560SEL and 300SDL. I think the SDL would be his best bet since he does all highway miles and the fuel efficiency would be of great benefit to him.

He was about to sell of his 190E until I spoke with him.. I kinda feel like a Pastor of the Mercedes Church.. (insert pun)...

Great guy.. I hope to hear from him soon about him attending the GTG along with his friends that have Benz's...

Old Mercs are great conversation pieces, new one's tend to cause rolling of eyes.

I was waiting in line to get mine reinspected the other day and a mint-looking SL320 pulled up behind me. I got out and started talking to the driver, who said this was the 145th car he has owned (he was older than I am). Many have been MBs. This cherry SL (yes, it WAS red) had only 24K on it and looked brand new.

It made the inordinate amount of time those inspection clowns kept us waitung a lot more tolerable. You really do meet some very nice people driving Mercedes Benzs!

Unless you have a Hammer or 2.3-16 . . . W124 and W201 sedans are pretty much invisible.

I did find some 190D's on CL.. I kinda want one now.. 30 mpg is kinda nice..but they are like you say "invisible"

He called me not too long ago asking for some info on his car and he mentioned he also has a 77 standard beetle.. pretty cool. He might not make it to the GTG since he is ya know.. a Pastor and sunday is that one day... But he did say he is taking a 3 day weekend off for Bug Jam.. I am going again this year for the fun of it..

Invisibility isn't a bad thing. If that invisibility extends to traffic cops, you could have a real winner!

"Bug jam?" Is that good on toast and English muffins?

Ah yes...Bug Jam! I used to attend those yearly with my VW entry, which in my younger years was in fantastic show car trim...and I was 20-ish, well built, no gray hairs, plenty of free time, etc. etc. (sigh)

Pre-MB ownership years by about two decades as well.

Don,

Pastor Bishop would do well 86ing the Cadillac (ghetto-cruiser).

Isn't it interesting that an MB never loses it's class 'n cachet........ It just grows as the years pass, while a 4-year old Cadillac, is entering it's permanent ghetto-cruiser time element.....
