I agree with him, before the 300SL their was no other super car. Sure there were some wildy expensive pre war cars, but they were the exclusive relm of the very, very rich. Kids in the 20's and 30's didn't have Duesenberg posters on their walls. The Bugatti Royal, V16 Caddy's, and Duesenberg's are the grandfather of the 600, or the Maybach of today. Maybach's are built to impress the people who can actualy afford them, thats it.

Not only was it a super car, it was ground breaking in every sense and pretty close to the race only W194. The 300SL had tubular chassis and the famous Gull Wing as well as well as the first gasser with fuel injection, a novelty in those days itself. It was one gutsy effort in part of MB in every sense and they created a beauty in that process.
