A big thanks to the folks who got Mercedes Shop back online so fast!

I want to thank those responsible for getting Mercedes Shop back online so fast. It was really a tough time without you guys! You don't know how you really appreciate something until its gone, even if it was for just a short time.

Thanks!

It took 3 weeks of extensive planning and testing building up to 2 days of VERY long hours. Most of the "behind the scenes" work was done to enhance server security and reliability.

You would be amazed at the number of attempts we get on a daily basis to hack into our server. In the first 24 hours my test server was running on the internet, there were 40,000 attempts to break in using brute-force attack methods. I tried to make sure this server was as secure as possible before the dns servers pointed to it.

Yeah thanks Bill!

40k attempts? People need to get a life.

Awesome job Bill. You deserve credit for your hard work.

Yeah, it's great to see the site back up so quickly.
It seems that applications work a little faster now. I was already about to blame it on Windows Vista ... so far it goes zack zack ...:)

I think that was one of the big things that killed MBCanada(besides funding). They were constantly getting hacked. What's the big thrill hacking into web sites, anyway? Some people need to just spend more time looking at porn on the 'net.

A couple of years ago, a local city water department, was hacked into. Apparently it took someone 2 weeks to figure out they'd been hacked. Apparently the guy was running a porn site off of their machine(s), and a few times, even made fun of the I.T. guys trying to get rid of him.

Some of the attacks are automated attacks. Other attacks may come from people who are trying to harvest the computers linked to a system/site and turn them into slave bots.

These are not just some pimpled-face kids in their parents' basement doing stuff for the thrill of it. These are serious criminals.

By protecting the integrity of the system Bill is also protecting the computers (ours) that connect to the site.

Good job!

The thing that killed MBCanada was Alex buying a Honda.

Who is Alex? What's a Honda? Where is MBCanada?

Totally agreed. This site is invaluable, both for information and good times in OD.

^ Cross my heart. First he quit his job as a salesman at a Benz dealer, then he traded his Benz in on a ricer. Bye bye MBCanada.

Sad days indeed. Should I rekindle the site? ;)
