1 Out of 4 Homeless Are Veterans

http://www.guardian.co.uk/worldlatest/story/0,,-7059671,00.html

And homelessness is not just a problem among middle-age and elderly veterans. Younger veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan are trickling into shelters and soup kitchens seeking services, treatment or help with finding a job.

The same article can be found on MSNBC and the data, supposedly is from the VA. It's either depressing or bogus, and right now I'm hoping for bogus.

I too hope its bogus as this is no predicament for a vet to be in, specially those who are fresh back from the trauma of war.

Well if you are asking me, will try and help them as much to my capacity, how about you? I have few vets working at my office, I will now concentrate on giving them preference for a job if my requirements are met.

I'm glad they're seeking and finding aid.

That's exactly what our planet needs more of......"affirmative action."

Congratulations! --Now they'll know why they were hired.

Since I'm a vet, I'm gonna stay in my home and not be "homeless".
But your question is better directed to those responsible. The President is a good place to start.

x2. The very least we can do is support and take care of the women and men defending our county starting with adequate medical care for them when they come home.

Whats wrong with affirmative action in this case, at least its a support for a right cause and a small token of appreciation. Would you rather see them on the street? In that case, its a fine reward for risking their necks out for the country. If they are qualified for the job, in this case, being partial to them is not wrong in my book in any way.

I think much of it is alcohol and drugs due to PTSD and depression, theres a saying in the military...theres always a job at the Post Office when your done.

There is an effective form of affirmitive action for vet's and personally I think its a sound program. You have to remember that some people simply do not want to work, it took myself more than a year to get my ass in gear post military, like I was awakening from a long sleep.

It's wrong, and you're practicing welfare in the workplace. If your hiring motives are found out, you're the one out of a job. Like 'ole Howie, the motivated vet....

I work for the Gumint and if they want to give five points extra to a honorably discharged veteran that is fine by me. Hell while that person was serving, I was developing skills through school and OJT. This probably gave me a edge, more than five points.
