The decline of our nation has been going on for some time now. Question is, will it take as long as the Roman empire did? Probably not. Will we see it fall in our lifetime? Quite possibly.

How do you envision it happening? Anarchy, invasion, economic meltdown? If anything, I think it would be the latter. With consumption going up everywhere else in the world, producing countries will have plenty of customers. We will be competing not only for more costly fuels but also finished goods with our war-devalued dollars.

We really need to start producing more things here again if theres going to be any hope.

Yes, that's what I am thinking.

Agreed - but our production costs will have be less than the competition, plus, the buyers, will have to be able to afford our products; which will also have to be quality products.

I don't. China is propping itself up on keeping as many people working as possible in factories making cheap goods. The government even subsidizes factories to keep producing things, even if there is no demand for it! They have countless warehouses full of stuff that is being produced, no one wants it, but it keeps people working! They are headed for a major economic bust in the near future. Pollution in China grows daily. Some major industry cities only have a 40 year life expectancy because so many people die of cancer from the extreme pollution.

Also, a vast majority of china still live in the undeveloped parts of the country, there's a huge separation of how people in the country and how people in the cities live. My guess is that when the fuel crunch gets real bad, china is going to run into some big big problems. (as will we, but we're probably a little better off to face it) and Europe could face it most easily, as they've been at it for a long time. When oil gets real expensive, will it be worth it to ship stuff to the USA anymore? Costs may outweigh the savings on the cheap labor. Not to mention the costs of production in China will also go up due to the higher fuel costs.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the coming years. We're not headed in a very good direction.

More stable than North Korea, and a handful of countries in the middle east. Not that that is saying much.

I wonder what would happen if consumers could sue the Chinese government for these poisoned products instead of sueing Matel ,would that have an affect on quality and now since this has happened ,will the FDA start enforcing mandatory testing on products from overseas?
