Official "Did I tell you I'm going to Warsaw" thread.

Bride has three weeks of work in Vienna, and Warsaw. Wonderful thing that she is, she bought my tix to come over for a week to visit in Warsaw and travel back to Vienna with her.

Some of you may remember Janusz Batko from the DD group. Somehow, I made contact with him and he's meeting me at the airport and will show us Warsaw and Krakow.

As seen by a native....

Randy L.,

This is very definately the way to go, to have a native show you around the city. You will seee things regular tourists miss, and time won't be wasted.

When I went to Scandanavia, a few years back, I met a 420SEC owner in Oslo, and another SEC owner in Copenhagen, and we were treated to home cooked meals, and marvelous comprehensive tours of the city by fellow car enthusiasts in each of these areas. It was immensely fun, educational and gratifying to see the places through their eyes.

When the Norwegian came to the USA on business with colleagues, later on, I was able to return the favor and give them a comprehesive look at San Francisco, as I was born there and had lived there continuously for the last 20 years.

There is a Polish Mercedes club that is active, you should ask about that.

It also is the perfect venue for getting rare Euro parts if you can go to a dealer or breaker's yard there, so be sure and save room in your carry on bag for little Mercedes things you picked up.

I hear they drive like crazy over there, and park wherever they think there is enough room. Have a blast! (and bring a helmet)

(Vienna, is more sedate, traffic wise)

Every girl you see that's cute, say "die me buzshi" That's not how it is spelled, I am sure, but see if you get any results.

I am going to Rszeszow over Christmas. My wife is from there. Fly into Rszeszow, stay with her ma and friends for a while, then off to Krakow to see the old castles, churches, and pipe organs, and going to try to get to see Auschwitz and also the salt mines.

I went there last year with my family. The salt mines in Krakow is one of the most amazing man man things I have seen. The details on the carvings are amazing. Very well worth the time. The only thing that freaked me out was the ride back up to the top in the elevator. Packed in like sardines in a mine elevator. Pitch black and fast as hell. If you are claustrophobic like I am a little, you have to have allot of trust in the folks who run it.

If you have a chance to go to Auschwitz, go. It is a hard place to visit but it needs to be seen by as many folks who can do it. I remember feeling a disconnect (if that is the right word). The pictures of the time were B&W and things looked dreary and depressed (which it was) but when I was there, the grass was green, birds were flying around, the air was crisp. It was nice, aside from the fact of what it was. Buna is only about 2 r so miles away (nothing left of the barracks but the fuel plant my dad was a slave laborer at is still standing and WORKING. Go figure.

As far as I am concerned they do drive like maniacs over there. My wife said they just had nothing to live for and did not care who they took out in the process. I will never ever drive there again. Scared the crap out of me.

I''ll have to see if I can dig up some of the pictures and post them.

We've been fortunate in that many of the places we've traveled, one or the other of us has friends there. In Shang hai, CW's friend Joy, in Antwerp another associate of CW's, in Australia, parents of a co-worker...et al.

IT's the only way to go.
