New PDA please help.

My PDA bit the dust and I need a new one.

I'm not a PDA power user so middle of the road should work fine but I do have a couple pre-req's.

1. Pocket PC Platform (due to the fact that everyone I work with uses it)
2. Wifi enabled and BlueTooth would be nice.

I only use them for contact info and finacial calculations and maybe some Access/Excel stuff in the future.

I got an HP 4155 last year. I'm even less of a power user than you. Wifi, bluetooth, syncs, basic stuff. It's not bad, I use it mainly on trips and for playing games.

Hey Medmech,

I've bought a couple over the last few years. Dell has a nice PDA, which I now use.

If price is a concern (but knowing you it isn't! ), go to their refurbished page. I bought one recently at about two thirds the cost and it has a warranty. Pretty good deal.

Thanks guys

I'm checking both units out, I had a little laugh because I'm back to my trusty, rusty HP 12C and I noticed I can make my calculations a little quicker and accurate

My biggest crutch with the PDA is kuans ... the games if I can keep myself busy during dull moments I can prevent myself from saying something stupid because I'm bored. Solitaire does a fine job.

Regarding Wifi it would be nice to be able to do some quick info grabbing at a coffee shop and note my thoughts at the time, I've noticed my memory isn't so solid these days .

A tablet PC would be the all around best fit but there are times I would look like an absolute idiot since I have to fit that businessman/bluecollar profile. I can keep a low profile with the PDA.

How is good is the web browsing on a PDA?

If you were in the market to replace a phone, PDA, GPS and camera, then I would have suggested the soon to be released iPaq phone for "synergy."

Has GPS, but not wi-fi (hey, it's a phone!) The HP device will feature GSM/GPRS with EDGE mobile phone connectivity, plus Bluetooth and GPS satellite positioning. The unit appears to have both a Mini SD and a SD IO slot, a 1200mAh battery, and the inclusion, on the rear of the device, of a 1.3 megapixel digicam. Powered by a 520MHz an Intel XScale PXA270, running Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition.

The screen is roughly 3.2in 240 x 240 pxl, smaller than the Treo 650's 320 x 320 unit. The phone is roughly the same size as the new PalmOne 650 but wider but there's no antenna stub and no fold-out receiver for the GPS system.

Browsing stinks, well, obviously the screen is tiny and the resolution sucks!

My Sony Erikson phone doesn't want to recognize my ipaq via bluetooth. Something's odd there. I don't think the phone's too smart.

I use mapopolis navigation software on the ipaq when I'm out of town and in town too I guess, but games man. I can run that battery down easy. Chess and backgammon are my two addictions.

The new HP and Treo look AWESOME!

I experimented with the Kyrocera 7135 and found that anything larger than a phone is a friggin pain the is A$$ and I usually need my PDA while I'm talking on the phone to grab info while I'm talking so I can create the illusion that I know what I'm talking about .

I know headsets are an option but once again if I forget the earbud I'm back to square one again, not too mention that I'm always stuffing a phone in my pocket which leads to broken screens. If I was a suit I would have one surgically implanted on my face.

I'm on my second month with a Treo600. I love having one pocketable device, instead of a separate phone and PDA. To use both at once, you can go into speakerphone mode or a headset. Surfing the web is do-able, but it's best done infrequently. I have used my Treo to check flight status online, to get a map from Mapquest and Google. The 600 has been surpassed by the 650 that has bluetooth and a much better camera. The 600's camera is pretty dreadful.

Since web browsing stinks I'm investing a whopping 39.99 on a Palm Tungsten until I can make up my mind I'm fairly proficient with palm OS so I can make do with peacemaker and mydatabase until I can test drive a unit I can live with permanently.

Thanks again for your time and input, I'd like to keep this thread going because the quest for my perfect PDA (for me) will continue.

Dang, I could make very good use of the built in camera, the only problem I have with the Treo is it's digital(cellular) only.

I just got a Tungsten E, but I don't need any WiFi or phone features, so it seems to serve my purposes fine.

Well I love my T*Mobile Pocket PC Phone, not the greatest as a PDA, not the greatest as a phone. Pretty good as a dual.

The new one's add some nive features, the SD card will support WiFi and ..

The Palm will get me through while a make a decision, I normally don't procrastinate but I still have my unused Radio Shack electronic Rolodex from 13 years ago sitting in a box. My PDA really is my info backbone so I have to be very comfortable with it.

I'm checking out the Treo today.

What version of the Palm OS is the Clie running? That would be the first filter for the apps. If you like transporting word/excel documents, then the DataViz Documents to Go would be handy. Get the game Giraffe if you want to sharpen your Graffitti skills.
