winter ride for The Swede

Maybe it'll start in winter since it's a Euro.

I saw that the other day. Interesting... I'd be hard pressed to pay more than$1500 however.

Body damage is kinda iffy, but I could get it fixed cheap.

My work neighbor has a BMW 320i (E21) 5 speed for sale. One owner, tons of receipts. Has some body rust, but the shock mounts, floor and frame are good. Everything works and he wants $1500. Good driving little car.

That's what's so good about this deal, with a body like that, it doesn't need snow tires.

How far away is 'whatchumacallit' MN? ...never hurts to test drive a 5 speed bimmer if it's near by enough.

Well it looks like it's over in two days, so not much time to get up there unless you happen to be passing by when they are around. Those are pretty rare I think so if it seemed to be well taken care of it could be worth a go around.
However, chances are, your first impressions would be carried through seconds unchanged, and niche market bidding would price it as more than it's worth functionally.
A more common gasser would actually be better to run as a winter car... in addition to the probability of horrible parts availability in a diesel bimmer.

VR4 is fine, but actually I was thinking of a lower-spec front-drive version, probably a lot more plentiful in the Dodge Stealth iteration.

The 350 SE sounds cool, as long as there is no structural rust.

There's cockpit and there's cocoon. Someone your size will emerge with wings from 3000GT.

A 633 or 635 5-speed might be a nice alternative to an SLC.

An Audi Quattro is the answer, problem is that I haven't found one in the $2000 range. They're either too new or non-running parts cars.

I do know of a solid '87 Quattro FS in Phoenix. The seller knows who he is. I've just about convinced my wife, but logistics is an issue. Better move soon as it's supposed to snow next week!!

I'm 6'2" and remember trying the 3000GT in the showroom and found that I could fit in the non-sunroof models without rubbing my head on the roof. Accomodations were roughly the same size as a third-generation Camaro/Firebird.

Watch those ZF autos, a weak spot in the BMWs of that era. This particular one doesn't like cold weather. Does it get cold in Minnesota?

I found a '93 Audi 90 CS Quattro FS a mere 2 blocks away. 190k miles. Good shape, but it needs brake work, very spongy and ABS light goes on (~$600?), has an oil leak that's a simple fix, but very hard to get at, radio doesn't work, exhaust leak... I dunno. He wants $2250. I'd be hard pressed to pay that, maybe $1800.
