Cheapest places to live

Latest Yahoo story lists these prices for a 2,200 square foot house. My question is: Are any of these good places to live?

Most affordable markets

City Price
Killeen, Texas $136,725
Minot, N.D. $139,033
Arlington, Texas $139,175
Canton, Ohio $146,333
Muncie, Ind. $150,000
Topeka, Kan. $150,075
Fort Worth, Texas $151,250
Tulsa, Okla. $153,750
Grayling, Mich. $155,000
Wichita, Kansas $156,500

Grayling is beautiful but it is a vacation area so finding a job would be the hard part. Kileen TX, is outside the gates of FT. Hood I imagine they should having a RE boom right now.

Remember that RE prices are relative to local salaries and wages.

Depends what you want. I only paid $122k for a 2600 sq/ft house here in N. Utah, 20 minute drive from Ogden where there's lot's of industry moving in. Moved from Arlington, Wa, BTW. Enough damn rain already!!

Last spring year we bought a 900 sf 3 br in Muncie for about $62K. A nice little house within three blocks of campus and a ten minute walk to the Architecture building for my lovely #4 daughter to live in for the next five years while she finishes the Architecture program.

Accustomed to real estate prices here in Lafayette I was shocked at the reasonable prices right next to campus.

Unemployment is pretty high there as all the GM related plants are one by one closing down. About the only reliable source of employment looks to be the University and all the support industries like Micky D's.

The east side of town is pretty rough. Probably other places too. I would imagine if you are fearless you could find very nice homes in bad areas for almost nothing.

Hey, that's nice, Tom. Your daughter is following in her dad's footsteps career-wise. You must be proud.

I designed and installed all of the photographic spaces in the new Quadrangle Bldg. at Ball State a few years ago. Only made one site visit, but it seemed pretty nice there.

I wonder why Utah didn't make the list?? If I was in Arlington I would leave just because of the traffic! This whole Seattle area is total traffic Hell. And still the people tell you "we don't need a transit system", as they sit in another traffic jam. You can't go anywhere any time of day. Maybe midnight.

Yeah, even little 'ol Marysville is getting to be a nightmare, not to mention Everett. I don't miss Washington in the least! If I didn't still have family there, I'd never care to go back.

Yeah the list came out for the 10 most expensive.

Greenwich is number two, damn lost again! $2,018,000 for a house like that.

Milford must be somewhere in the middle at $450k.

Fairfield county is really expensive. But people make a lot more money, most pull down $300k+ a year.
