Glacier Gal

This is the story of the P-38 recovered from Greenland. It's now in KY and in flying condition.

Wasn't there a B-29 recovered and restored in Greenland only to catch fire and burn on it's first takeoff attempt?

Yes... but it was a taxi attempt (not a takeoff) as I recall.

The plans are to try to recover the Wales P-38 in the spring.

hey, I built a rubber band powered Gullows balsa "stick and tissue" P-38 as "therapy" during law school . . . after completion, I flew it off the Golden Gate Bridge.

tool box

I think the b-29 burned when the guy's toolbox slid around and knocked something loose. A $1.29 bungie or $.04 worth of rope might have saved it, however, things do happen for a reason.

An aux generator broke its mounts in the rear and ignited the gas when the fuel supply line pulled off.
