Dealerships suck
Hey guys just want to vent. Dealers suck because they never want to give you the MCO or MSO which ever your prefer, but that is the deed to the vehicle. All I want to do is buy a car and not be looked at like a criminal when I am paying cash and want to do whatever I want to do with my new vehicle whether that be cut it up in a million pieces or burn it or ship it oversees. What has happened to the home of the brave and the land of the free. Last time i checked living in America gave you the right do purchase anything and do anything with your property as long as you werent breaking any laws. I just cant believe all the BS i get when I wan to buy a car make a profit and pay uncle sam my income tax. Well thanks for reading.

Hhmm
I'm kind of following you...If you mean the title to the vehicle (as real estate actually requires a deed) please elaborate on which dealership would not let you buy a vehicle for cash...

Also, do you mean cash or do you mean check? There are limits and reporting requirements on cash transactions.

I dont want nor do i need the title I want the Manufacturers Certificate of Origin or as some call it the Manufacturers Statement of Origin. The MCO or MSO is the only document I want the dealer to give me as well as a statement from the bank saying that there is no lein on the vehicle.

True, and
Quote:
$10,000.00 and anything greater for cash, money order & cashier's/counter check require a notification of the federal government for "large item" purchases OR transfers. The main reason is catching money launderers and tax evaders. The exception(s) are less than $10K in a 'suspicious activity' like a pattern of $5K a week for 3 or more weeks.

I sold cars for a few years.
Quote:
The MSO is a line (brief statement) on the window sticker of a NEW car. After the initial sale and registration, the MSO amounts to needless data. I don't know of any state that allows the sale of a new or used car without a title. Here in NC that is actually illegal. If fact, if you don't have a title in most states you are required to file a lost title search (at filer's expense). The exceptions might be for cars older than a specified age or junk cars. Since you mentioned exporting or reselling I'm guessing these last two don't apply? If you are buying it outright there would be no bank statement in the picture, as you are not financing it through a bank. If you did finance it, the bank would tell the state then the state would clear the lein. The "statement of no lein" is issued at the same time the title is printed with your name on it. I know in Alabama there is a separate piece of paper from the title that is a "lein status" or something like that. In most other states any lein or brand (if applicable like salvage, flood, repo) would be on the face of the title. In any case, you must have a title to transfer it to another person or export it.

Why don't you just do a wire transfer. Last time I bought an airplane, we did it that way, there's no wait for funds be verified because the funds are there. If I'm not mistaken, there's requirement to report to the IRS either since the funds are there. The operative word is the funds are there. I don't know about MCO or MSO's but I haven't ever tried to export an imported vehicle.

IF the time from your purchase
Quote:
to the transfer to another person is LESS TIME than the typical temporary (paper) license plate I don't think you would owe any tax on it. BUT, like a lawyer would tell you, "Check your local laws." In most cases possession of the car and a clear title is NOT the same thing as a registration. IE: TOW the car to the new buyer (or port of departure.)

Yes but you have to be a dealer to do that.

Exactly. Say what you want about the dealer but you can't avoid sales tax at Sears either under the same premise.
