snopes.com

I keep getting emails stating: confirmed by snopes.
How credible are they?

I would check snopes.com just to confirm that they are legitimate . . .

Are you asking how credible Snopes is, or how credible those emails are?

I've gotten emails stating that the subject has been verified by Snopes, only to find that while Snopes has indeed researched the subject, they found the opposite of what the email claims. So, I'd have to say that those emails are subject to much doubt.

As for Snopes themselves? Well, I can't really say. They seem credible, but how would most of us know? I personally have never known any women to masturbate themselves to death on a pick-up truck gearshift, but there are lots of women I've never even met, so I can't say for certain it has never happened. I can say that on the few subjects they have listed where I do have some knowledge, so far Snopes has been right on the money.

Take it for what it's worth.

If you have to check snopes to see if something is true, then you're not really qualified to determine the veracity of snopes, eh?

That reminds me of the old joke, "I wouldn't want to be a member of any club that would have somebody like me as a member."

. . . . oh, BTW, what's all this business about women masturbating on gear shift knobs?

I go for entertainment. Some of the stories that are on there are just... Well... Gearshift? Death? C'mon...

Like I said, most of the stories I couldn't tell you one way or another. Only rarely does one pop up that I happen to know about, and those are usually the rather mundane ones. But on those few, Snopes does have their story straight, so I have to give them that. Mostly the ones I know about are some of the car commercials. The Honda Rube Goldberg one is pretty cool. And the Ford Sport Ka? Decapitating a cat with the sunroof? That's funny. Amazing that Ford would try to get away with that. Even overseas, people get all upset about things like that. Even if they are fake....
