In all honesty,,, it is SO nice not to go fight the crowds for a lot of my purchases. I hate not giving the local merchants their due, but most of what I bought they wouldn't have anyhow. Anyone else ?

Si, senor. At least some of it. Trying to make a few things, too. I tend to be overly optimistic about my capabilities, time-wise, though.

Yup, most of it. Many offer internet sales and free shipping to boot. I hate dealing with crowds and waiting in line so I try top get most of it done online.

I am a big E-Bay shopper and was going to buy cigars on-line from JR's but there is something about going to the cigar store, picking them out and purchasing them in person. I like keeping the local merchants in business and feel like I did alittle more by going to the store and hand picking them myself.

Nice! Have a puff or two for me. The Mrs. and I enjoy them but we've got our kids so anti-cigarette smoking that we don't know how to cross that cigar bridge yet.

Christmas shopping is really the only time I do much online stuff. I'll buy some stuff here and there during the year but most of the time I like to be able to walk in, hold stuff and pay with cash. Avoiding the crowds this time of year goes a long way! I don't mind walking around with the crowds but if I've got something to do it raises my blood pressure.

Nothing purchased on line for xmas. Nothing from WalMart or a mall either. Totally support the local stores and the women that work in them know how to help me with my daughters and wife because they know my daughters and wife. It probably costs more in the short term, but I don't have a house full of cheap broken plastic crap or closets full of stuff my wife won't wear, either.

Just got to make sure I make sure I intercept the bills so my wife doesn't end up paying for her own presents placed on account

Good for you, JD. Try to do that as much as possible. I remember when I used to go downtown as a kid and buy stuff in the stores. I'd just tell them to put it on my dad's account. There were no credit cards, checks, etc. Those days seem to be long gone. Of course "downtown" is gone, too, now.

About 30% online. It's handy for the casual good friend that lives elsewhere. You can pick up a good bottle of wine or an exotic spirit and have it shipped right to the recipient with a gift card. My OH is sort of an antiquarian, and there is limited local shopping for that as most of her acquisitions have been across the pond. Everything else is local.

Not gone you just have to look. I still put stuff on my dad's account occasionally at a clothing store in Charleston (even though he hasn't lived there in 15 years)

There are many good shops in Old Town. A relative used to work at a toy store there that is old school like the one I use at home. Richmond, Williamsburg and Charlottesville also have some great 100 year old stores.

My wife is too and we have found more european antiques that are easier to ship on Royal (and canal to an extent) street in New orleans and King street in Charleston than on trips to europe

Natchez has some decent places too.

Royal Street, which I try very hard to avoid. Oh if I could have 10% back of the $$ that have went through the register. Her ideal shopping trip would be St Petersburg....................Russia.

Ever go to Ben Silver in Charleston? I love that store. Very classic duds! They have some terrific cigar stores there, too.
