Where to sell my text books?

So.. what is a good place online to sell my textbooks? I already sold one to a girl in one of my classes for 3/4 what I paid for it.. the rest I want gone since I have no use for them.. I didn't even use two of them!

Doesn't your own college bookstore buy them back?
Wait until the start of next semester and stand outside the bookstore with your stack of textbooks priced about 20% below what the bookstore is charging.

I buy them online cheap, and sell them back to the book store for even less. Don't get me going on these books, the schools have quite a racket going. What other legal business can you re sell a $100 product 2, 3, 4, or 5 times? Lets see I buy it new for $100, they give me $30 back. Then go around and resell it for $80.

So they made $70 the first time, $50 the second, and if they do that 3 more times, $270 off a $100 book. Freaken schools, they rape me for tuition, then get me for the books as well.

What I really love is when a professor publish's their own, I had one that looked like it was written on Word and printed at Kinko's, they charged me $50 for that freaken POS that we hardly used. Its a good racket for the professor and school, no one outside of the school will buy them, so you have to sell it back to the book store. And since you can't sell it to anyone else they give you maybe $5 for it.

Crack dealers don't have those profit margins.

Textbooks in the future, should be sold as e-books. Easy to distribute, they can be set to be permanent or "self-destruct" and much less arm and backstrain lugging them around.

I first ran into textbook publishers trying to peddle their wares that way back in about 2000 or 2001. It never took off.

Academia . . . the last "paper & ink" refuge in the early 21st Century.

There surely is a viable financial model for educational e-books. I recall when Wharton first required business school students to have a personal computer and then Duke University made iPods (for lectures) an experimental part of the school supplies list.

That reminds me. My school became an 'IPod University' about a year ago with a great deal of hoopla. Presentations on how to podcast our lectures for students, and how to integrate podcasting into the classroom. School spent a lot of time producing a sample podcast by the administration.
About a week later everyone gets an e-mail. Ooops. Don't do any podcasting . We don't have enough bandwidth for students to be downloading podcasts from our website.

Got an e-mail from our librarian last week. He claimed that Amazon has just come out with an e-book reader that is good enough to make ebooks work.

The Amazon device uses the same display technology as the Sony e-Reader, which Mrs. MTI got last year. Amazon's device is larger and uses wi-fi to download books and subscriptions to newspapers and magazines (since there so many men that only get Playboy for the articles).

I prefer paper books, I am starting to put together a nice no school book related library. I enjoy collecting them.
