There is a shopping mall in one of the established towns around here.
They set up a nice tall Christmas tree on the little plaza already some weeks ago.

Yesterday, when I left the gym, I noticed there was now also a Chanuka Menorah about 8-10 feet tall with all the lights on.

As I was walking to my car, I had my thoughts about it, primarily, as I am not a religious person, I had a bit of a strange impression with all this symbolism. That includes the Christmas tree as well esp. since it almost blocks the entrance to the gym.

However, I concluded to think " If it makes them happy, why not!?" and marched on to my car.

Today I came back, as I go to the gym almost every day, I felt shocked, when I saw, the lights on the menorah were ALL demolished. Vandalized! The bulbs knocked off, some of the sockets ripped out, hanging off the structure.

It made me really sick to see that. Sick enough to post it here. Tomorrow, when I go back, I will take a picture.

That's messed up....A lot of people hate Jews........

I can't understand the attitude of people who do such things. It's sad to see. I try to get along with everybody who'll allow me to do so. It's not that I'm averse to confrontation. I just try to live and let live. Our differences are what make us interesting. We can disagree with each other without being mean or rude about it.

I wouldn't read too much into it - it could be a "hate crime" or it could simply be a couple of kids doing something to which they gave no thought.

It struck me as very strange when I saw this.
I looked up a local paper and found an article about when the menorah was lit. They said it is 16 feet tall. Some one has taken effort to accomplish this.

• Numerous incidents of school-based harassment, including: a middle school student in Los Angeles being taunted by another student saying, "F*** the Jews," a high school student in the San Fernando Valley being taunted by another student making the Nazi salute and saying, "I will kill the Jews," and a middle school teacher making anti-Semitic comments to a San Fernando Valley 8th grader

• Denigrating comments in the workplace such as "You Jews owe us something" and disagreement with a store owner in West Covina resulting in being called, "Dirty Jew"
