Thumbs up Phil at Mercedesshop

Phil answered my questions and I ordered an alternator from him. WTF? I was on the phone with him and we had the email confirming the order. I was stunned. I exclaimed my surprise and he just said "I don't have time to fool around." Damn he was quick. Most places, if I even get an invoice that night I would be lucky. Same day shipping under those circumstances? Not a chance unless I call in the am.

This was at 1615hrs CST. He already had the thing ready and sent out THAT SAME DAY. That he was better priced than the locals didn't hurt either. Closest I could get to him at $120 more expensive plus tax. This was $437 plus free shipping. I wish he had a store here so I could run to it and buy stuff instead of having to get them mail order but I guess we can't have everything, can we. Actually, better yet is if we could get him to move his store next to my house.

In my experiences with Phil, your is a pretty standard story.
He gives excellent service.
That he hosts this forum is a plus. I will be placing a small order in the next day or two for some maintenance items--even though I could save a couple of bucks elsewhere. I believe in supporting good service, especially when the guy on the phone is NOT in India....

One of my pet peeves with online ordering, is shipping costs. It pisses me off to no end, when vendors use shipping as a profit item - cranking up the rates well beyond the actual cost. The fact that Phil doesn't do this, is a big plus in my book.

I've only ordered from Phil a few times so far, but he's now the first one I call. On two occasions, when expecting a ground shipment that would arrive 3-5 days later, I was blown away to find out they arrived the next day - via overnight shipping, at no extra charge. I've no idea how common this is, but it's something I've never seen elsewhere.

So yeah...big thumbs up to Phil. He's a breath of fresh air.

What's Phil's shipping address origin? And inventory site?

To avoid sales tax, would be even better for Internet orders.

Yup

Hey most all orders do not incur sales tax. Unless it is ordered within Georgia, I believe.

Fastlane distributes from nationwide points so you get stuff fast. Like the name says FASTLANE.

Yes, Phil is a champ and Fastlane is excellent for parts source.
The whole crew is champs.

How did you manage that? Every time I have had to go local, I have always ended up spending more money. Even the time I needed glass. Phil told me that it was too risky to ship glass that far.

Phil is a worldpac distributor- there are many in the USA. You can find some who sell cheaper than Fastlane. If you look at his catalog and say, Rusty at buymbparts, you will see that the way they find the parts for you car are the same. Phil's service is very good.

True but, that's only about 1/3 of what he sells.
He also supports this forum. No Phil...no forum.

So, we better keep Phil.

Maybe some day I will place an order there, actually I thought about getting a nice wooden steering wheel for my newly aquired '81 300SD. I dunno if he carries those kind of items.

I mostly go with my mechanic's parts. It's Enrique here in SoCal, Tarzana.
I seem to come at a good average, comparing Phil's prices. Some are higher there and some a lower here, visa versa.

I am ok to see my mech take a fair share on parts, esp since he charges $65 per hour labor.

I had both axles replaced on my 82 300D @ a parts price of $120 per each and $65 per side for labor...

You can spend over $700 per half-shaft, just for the part, even with Phil.

But it's great to see integrity and the recognition thereof. Both is a rare find in this time and age.
