Antique diecast afficianados here?

I picked up a model today at an antique store. It is made by Old Cars. 1/43 Italian, a maserati 250 gp car, red with a dark yellow stripe on the nose, carrying the numeral 1. I suspect it is dressed up as the one Fangio won his last world champion ship in.

I was hoping to find a site where I could determine a value for it.

Anybody have a suggestion?

There is a mark saying...." #-1-43 ".

It is a really cool little car with actually larger rubber tires on back than on front as was standard in the day.

I found a web site with some newer "old cars" models. Most of them selling for about 65 pounds.

When I was in Maranello (Ferrari's home town) there was a model shop down the street from the Ferrari Museum. It had hundreds of diecast models with incredible detail, including cars, trucks and busses. All of the cool ones cost more than my first car....hell, my second car too.

I just realized it cannot be 1/43, so its about 3.5" long....what would that be, 1/64 ?

I searched the internet several different ways and found fifteen or twenty models of Fangio's car but none of this brand and/or scale. I presume just like with real cars, rarity does not necessarily equate to value.

At 3.5" long, it's a lot closer to 1/43 to 1/64.

I have bought dozens of them off of www.ebay.de (Germany) for the last 9 years. Search in ebay.de - modelautobau - model autos.

Collecting model autos is serious, and big business, over there.
Most large cities have large stores that cater just to them, and their customers.

Among the best detailed, yet reasonably priced ones are (For Mercedes Benz and Volvo) Paul's Model Art, and Vitesse for the older (Heckflosse and before) ones.

No problem if you don't speak German, most sellers leant it in school, all items are packed with teutonic thoroughness, and they ship quickly, and arrive in good condition, and the sellers are VERY honest.

Searching "Fangio" yielded these, this evening. Any help?

Yep. It is a lot newer and less established than ebay.de though. I have never bought anything off of there, though. Caveat emptor

Why should I? Ebay Germany has the largest selection and best prices and most honest sellers, I think for this. It's your best bet if you like shopping for precision crafted model autos from europe.

Thanks, again. There were several choices there of 1/43 maser 250s. No "old cars" brand though.

It turns out there are five or six manufacturers out there of 1/43 diecast maserati 250 f1 cars from that era. Most carry the numeral 1 but some carry 2.

I am a diecast collector, mostly "Matchbox by Lesney"
An Australian site has your car, based on description.

That is it. How did you search to bring it up? I cannot get the site to admit it has it.

I am a collector and frequent sites all over the world. But a Google for "old cars"+"maserati"+"1/43" should give you results.
