Gun ID....????

Anyone have any ideas? There is a Patent date but no number. No name on the gun either. Only says "safety hammer, double action". My brother was owed money and accepted the gun.

Have you removed the grips? Might be something under there.

The manufacture is H&R, I hope your brother was not owed more than $50

It looks like a 38 caliber version of -
(From the 1908 Sears & Roebuck catalog)
"Harrington & Richardson's 'Young America', Safety Hammer Self Cocker. 32 caliber, Double Action, Central-Fire, Full Nickeled, Five-shot"
$1.70 with hard rubber grips.
$2.60 with pearl grips.

At that time it was Harrington & Richardson's cheapest revolver.

My brother bought a 38 caliber version several years ago, in 'kit form' (pieces in a plastic bag) for $10, and re-assembled it. On the the top, over the cylinder, his is marked 'SAFETY HAMMER DOUBLE ACTION, and on the barrel H.& R. ARMS COMPANY. WORCESTER. MASS. U.S.A., and 38 S.& W. CTGE. Serial number is on the bottom of the grip-frame.

Sometimes, if the gun was made for private-label sale, it might not have a manufacturers mark.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Patent date is April 5, 1887. From the link all clues point to an H&R "Safety Hammer, Double Action"

I removed the grips but only found a number. Presumably the serial number of the gun.

Thanks guys. No doubt worth less than $100.

First they make you register your guns. Then they come and take them away . . . . You liberal, anti gun person!
