Question for Preidential Qualifications
I don't know how much this should weigh in as a qualification, but I have a problem with having anyone as President that has not served in the military. What is your thought on this.

Why elevate military service to be the only prime qualification? I would like the President to at least have an appreciation, and not a hatred of the military. I am not certain that military service is the only way to accomplish that.
I would also like all legislators to have actual private business experience. Selling a product, managing the employees and making payroll while complying with all applicable state and federal regulations would be my primary qualification. Personal integrity would be a bonus--but you have to expect an honest person to say things you don't like, and you would have to cut him/her some slack. A degree in government or any similar field would automatically disqualify an individual. We do not need a professional ruling class. IMO, if someone can manage, they can manage almost any enterprise. I would also expect "public servants" to remember that they are our employees, and not our masters. Anyone taking public office should take a vow of poverty to never profit from their service. Yes I am a dreamer.

I voted yes, but I would like to clarify. Since the President is the Commander in Chief of the armed forces, I think some previous military experience would be a good thing, but it's not an absolute necessity.

Served in the military? No. But if war breaks out it should be mandatory that the president and secretary of defense serve in the combat area.
I remember when I was in the army an NCO or officer saying to us “I'll never ask you to do what I wouldn't do.” That should apply to all our leaders

It certainly does not hurt but we have had some pretty bogus presidents with extensive military experience. The present pres for example served in the guard. Tom W

I voted "Who gives a rip" since I think a panoply of experiences rather than a single experience, is more important.

It really is. The leaders are there to lead, not to die in combat.

There is a sentiment there that I am sympathetic to though.
That being that it is a little too easy to send young folks out to die when the decision makers are home safe. Tom W

I would be more interested in them having a well rounded education with emphasis on economics and world history. Maybe then they might realize that placing armed forces in a region for nation building purposes that has been fighting for thousands of years night not be a wise idea.

Me, too. I think it would be a good idea for somebody responsible for sending people out to fight and die should know first-hand what it's like on a real battlefield with people shooting at you. It seems to me that that experience might make politicians a little slower to launch us into wars.

Wasn't he the one who would never give anybody a clear, straight answer, and kept putting people off all the time?
