Ever get tired of Mercedes all together..?

I realize most of us just love Mercedes. I do too. For the past few years of my life, they seem to be my biggest interest in fact. Though I never got rid of my old Chevy Musclecars, and other Non-Mercedes vehicles. Recently, I decided to go back to my roots a little. I started messing around with my old Novas, and a few others. Last week, I also made a small purchase, which is actually adding more flame to the fire. This, is what I bought. This car is as solid, as the day it was new, everywhere. It has been repainted, and converted to a 12volt electrical system. Other than that, nothing else has been done to it. It came with brand new,Chrome Chevy Rallye wheels, with brand new tires with stickers still on the treads. The interior needs work though. It came with the rear bumper was removed by the previous owner, in order to fit the car in his garage. It also came with the original painted steelies, with hub caps. I paid $400.00 cash for this car, as you see it. It is a 1950 Chevy Business Coupe. Yes, that isn't a typo..$400.00.

I didn't get it from a "Little old lady" either. It came from a guy, in his mid 40's who got it for free from a relative.

Planned mods consist of;

Blown and injected Big Block Chevy.

Four, five, or six speed, stick.

Ford 9" rear, with either 3.73, or 4.10 locker, and three link rear suspension.

Mini-Tub, the rear inner fenders, so I could fit some bigger meats back there, without messing with the chassis, and destroying the looks of the car.

12 point roll cage (NHRA Approved)

Nice interior. Car will be fun, for street and strip. Have same stance as it currently does. No flashy paint job. It will be painted in a solid, dark, Hunter Green Metallic.

Not quitting on, or even losing interest in Mercedes, or current projects. Just want to "Stretch my legs", so to speak, and "I need my space".

Nick

It looks like a nice honest car. A real deal at 400 imho.

I don't see how you are going to tub it without cutting the frame.

Great looking car. I'm envious. Pleeeeaaasssse don't defile it with the mods you mentioned! Original is always best. It's a time machine, not a race car. All my opinion of course. Wanna sell it????

Four hundred bucks! Did you wear a mask?

I've gotten to the point that I'd rather keep a car stock or mostly stock, but those mods sound pretty standard on a Chevy of that age. Post pics/time slips when it's finished.

I had a '50 2-door like that some 20 years ago. Was a fun old car! Mine had the fender skirts, sun visor over the windshield(which made it lotsa fun seeing a traffic light) and was a 2-tone cram and maroon paintjob.
Have fun with it! Post more pics as you work on it.

That car looks like it came to you straight out of Havana, Cuba, yesterday!!!

For that price, you can't beat it with a stick.

So do with it, whatever you please.

WOW What a steal!

I am also of the opiniion that you should not cut up that car. It looks like a real survivor and should be kept as close to original as possible.

That is how I got my '57. They guy had bought it with the idea of cutting up a virgin unmolested Nomad into a pro-street car. Once he get ready to put the torch to metal, he found he couldn't go through with it and he sold it to me.

The only things I did to the rust free original paint car was to replace the carb with a new Carter (it had a much too big Holley on it thanks to the PO) and convert the car to front disc brakes. I never felt good with the old power drum (fade-a-way) brakes. I was going to change the rear end gearing to drop the revs down on the highway, but never got to it. It came with factory seat belts, power steering and the Powerglide trans.

That is all I would do to your car. Update the brakes and make it drivable on today's roads (rear end gearing, seat belts, etc) but keep the original engine esp if it is an unmolested numbers matching original.

Then contact "Hemmings Classic Car " and get your car inthe magazine

This is now my favorite time period. I just wonder how they drive stock and what would need to be done to improve them as daily drivers without being a butcher?

Cool car! You definitely moved into the right area for finds like that. Hell, the rallies with new tires are worth $400. Me, I'd keep it stock or go black suede paint on painted steelies and straight pipes.

You can "Mini-Tub" a lot of cars, without notching the frame. There are a full four inches of sheetmetal, between the rear inner fender wells, and the frame rails on this car. All that needs to be done is to extend the insides of the fender wells, up to, but not beyond the frame rails. Suspension can even stay intact if so desired, because all that gets done, is some sheetmetal get's removed, and replaced, deeper in. Allowing a larger tire, without messing with the overall look, and engineering of the car.

I have done this with countless cars over the years, mostly Novas, Chevelles, and Camaros. It works very well, and keeps it streetable and not looking like one of those ridiculous "Pro-Street" jobs.

Nice car! I'll give you $800 for it?

Seriously though, I would make it a driver. Rebuild suspension and brakes, redo interior and electrical. I like oddball engine combos. Maybe a modern straight six and automatic like the Trailblazer powertrain? Or a Vortec 4.3 liter with a Paxton/Vortech/turbo? Blown injected big block. Predictable. Yawn.
