Talking Amsterdam to close Red Light District?

Newsweek reports the Dutch Sex Workers Union is upset that the Amsterdam city government wants to shut down the brothels, sex bars, peep shows, sex shops and prostitute windows in Amsterdam.

What are these poor women to do???

Oh the horror...the horror

More info here

Thanks for the reminder.

I visited Amsterdam as a (relatively) young and innocent 18 year old in 1970. My buddy and I stayed in a youth hostel near the train station in the middle of the Red Light district.

What a hoot.

I remember a sign in the windows of all the places - something like "kamen to hoor" or something like that. Anyone know what that is?

I have fond memories of the girls in the windows, the french fries with mayo, and the Heincken brewery tour, with the "all you can drink" samples.... I went drunk to the next stop of the visit, the Van Gogh museum - at 11AM.

Didn't go to any of the pot-smoking clubs, or for that matter, the girls in the windows - like I said - (relatively) young and innocent.

Fun place at that time.

My favoured buffet would of course be a "gash bar".

I recall it well, good, light European breakfast followed by an amble thru the "entertainment district". A break for some 420,and what greeted us from above but 2 creamy thighs in black hose swinging from some 3rd story window.

My wife and I,being young and venturesome entered the establishment and requested the lady aforementioned........I never had a chance,my wife monopolised the whole damn thing!Had to get my own piece later

I've tried,God knows,to take her to an on site Swinger's club locally but I'm just met with a blank stare..............Ahhh,youth...whither art thou?

Mr. Hughes,

When will your memoirs be published? It sounds like a best-seller.
