Clemens testimony

Just finished watching the whole Clemens testimony, and don't believe he told one word of truth. He never answered one question directly and couldn't answer at all to a lot more. Anyone else see it ?

It crushed me. I love Roger Clemens, one of the best pitchers in baseball today and at first I wanted to believe him but when I read what he said, most of which had to do with his upbringing and how feels about this country, blah, blah, blah. It would have been better for him to admit he used some for his injuries and be done with it. I am hoping he can recover from it but I am afraid he really will retire now...damn Jose Conseco for starting all this crap. Anyone know where David Wells is these days?

I've been occasionally checking ESPN....but frankly, the whole thing sickens me. I hate the lying, I hate the cheating....but most of all, I hate taxpayer dollars being wasted for this. I love the game, I want it to be pure....but it is just entertainment. They all look stupid.

Mistress, I'm sure Yank fans are universally cringing right now.

What's next, finding out Jeter is a homosexual? You know, not that's there anything wrong with that.

Maybe those nasty knats would have stayed away - had he been clean.

It's such a strange era now - I don't believe any record or accomplishment. I'm a Philly diehard - and I find myself even questioning Ryan Howard's performance.....although I have no reason to think that way.

I'm not sure what the right answer is, to be honest with you. Going back into the past just seems complicated and messy......and for what? It's entertainment. Should they be banned and tested? Absolutely. Should we go back on a witchhunt and waste money and time? This isn't the holocaust, it's baseball. I dunno.

Where's Swamp at? I can usually bait him into a sports thread.

Jon Papelboner will eventually shrink from all the roid use.

That should bring his opinion over here

I agree though - granted, NFL and NBA had better policies intact and were much more forthright in dealing with their problems.....I simply don't like congress involved.

I agree that it is crap that Congress is involved in this mess, but baseball sure didn't seem too eager to stop it. If anyone thinks that baseball or footballs' higher ups don't have a clue about the players using drugs, is also pure crap.

I'm more annoyed by it than anything else. Like Jordan said, don't they have more important matters to deal with? I really don't give a snit what happened in the past. They didn't have a testing policy in place (I know legality comes into play) so it's time to clean the slate and move on. Steroid, HGH, PED use from here on out is another thing. But now there is a baseline, pun intended, to start from.

Had he admitted it, there would have been a crap storm for a week or two and it would have faded away. Instead, at least to a plain old Joe six-pack onlooker, he looks and sounds like he's lying. Whether he's losing the legal battle remains to be seen, but he is losing the public opinion one. And one would think that Andy Pettite would have no axe to grind and nothing to gain in implicating Roger other than saving keeping his own ass out of jail.

Although, as a Sox fan I am getting just a teensy bit of enjoyment out of it.

I still can't believe Gabe Kapler wasn't implicated. I thought for sure he was juicing.

Congress guys grilling baseball player question

Can someone tell me why in the world we are paying our congress to grill baseball players in regards to steroid use. I ate lunch today where they were getting testimony from Roger Clemens on the tv. What is this for? How is it going to help the American working class people? What a bunch of bs in my opinion. If we got rid of our congress in DC would the working class folks ever be able to tell?

I don't know who moved my question here but thanks. I did not see it already posted. Spending my tax $$ (salaries) on this kind of stuff makes me want to quit sending it in.

I saw part of it. A shame. I think it much more likely that Clemens is lying that the trainer.

It would be a huge temptation to use steroids for another few good years as a pro athlete.

I agree- Henry Waxman and co. have much more important things to be doing than worrying about classless cheaters.

My favorite bit of the day - Waxman banging the gavel and telling Clemens to shut up... or maybe Clemens saying that Pettitte must have misheard him.
