Hamlin gives Toyota first Cup win

Denny Hamlin scored Toyota's first ever NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win on Thursday at Daytona, winning the second Gatorade Duel qualifying race for next Sunday's season-opener.

Hamlin and his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Tony Stewart worked together to beat Jeff Gordon in the closing laps, securing the first major success for Toyota in NASCAR's top series and putting three Camrys in the first three rows of the grid for Sunday's race.

More power to Toyota, Nascar will get interesting for sure and maybe Honda will follow suit.

well i wouldn't really consider a qualifying race as an "official"win.and it took 2 of em to beat gordon by himself, evidently kasey kahne couldn't keep up with him for some reason or another.wonder how much its costing toyota for gibbs to switch over ?? it's their second year and if i remember right it took dodge 2 years to win when they came back.just took em a year to work the bugs out.they should be good as long as their engines hold together.they had alot of blown engines last year.

How about Junior though ? He appears happier than he has been in a long while, and could very well be the first ever to win 3 races at Daytona during the 500 week. Hendrick and Jr. seem to make a very potent combination.:D

Interesting and ironic his first win without the Bud red cloak was in the Budweiser shootout!

Wonder how much the ANG paid to go on his hood for that race? Taxpayer money is that?

Why did Junior and Bud part ways? A contract restriction with DEI? Hendrick's sponsors balk at it?

I think Junior wanted to be able to identify with the younger crowd, and the tie with Bud just did not allow that. I think it was a mutual parting of the ways, with no bad feelings on either side.
