Anesthesiologist

I need a quick answer if possible for the cost of an anesthesiologist for a colonoscopy, just for an exploratory turning middle age kind of a thing, as well as a likely cost for the procedure itself.
There's no sign of anything, it would just be based on age 40
I have a feeling some of us here have already done it.

What was billed?

I can't seem to find anything on line and everyone is closed.

I don't see any need for an anaesthesiologist for a colonoscopy. I've seen prices for a colonoscopy from $800-3400. My only complaint when I had one done recently was they gave me some kind of drug to relax me. I found it distracting and unnecessary. It's my understanding that age 50 is the year to have one done.

A friend of mine chose not to have anesthesia during a routine colonoscopy. Did it as an out-patient save money. Doc found some interesting tissue to biopsy. Ouch.

Conscious IV sedation is common for colonoscopy , prices vary by the type of office, surgery center, contract, nurse anesthetist , yada yada. IV sedation in Michigan starts at $350 and goes up from there.

The whole ordeal sounds like a major pain in the rear anyways

I know it's a necessary procedure when we get old, but if I can use a .25" diameter boroscope to check out cylinder walls, and my cell phones camera cell is smaller then that, why the HELL does that instrument need to be so freekin huge???

I know nothing about sedation

I've had a sigmoidoscopy done, which is just the part of the colon nearest the anus.

It is a short procedure, and anasethia isn't used.

It was very uncomfortable. The colon has a tendency to clamp down on anything inserted in it, so air is blown in so the flexible tube with the camera can be inserted as it makes its way up the colon.

I can describe the pain as the worst gas cramps you've ever had.

Knowing that a colonoscopy looks at a much greater part on the colon, I can't imagine undergoing the procedure without some sort of anasethia.

Regarding the cost of an Anesthesiologist, my wife and I had to pay $250 for an Anesthesiologist for her In-Vitro procedure, which lasted all of 15 minutes when the egg retrieval was carried out.

I was trying to pay attention to the monitor since when I have my own head up my ass it's too dark to see anything.

Somehow I had a feeling there would be more wise comments from the peanut gallery than answers to cost/what got billed to insurance. For those of you who responded so far, thanks!

I had one done when I turned fifty.

But being 59 now I can't remember much about it except that I was shocked that when I saw it on the moniter right before he stuck that thing in my butt was sooooooo hairy!

I had one two weeks ago. There was no Anesthesiologist - and not even a Nurse Anesthetist - just an RN who gave some sort of sedative. I was awake for the procedure but woozy- did get to peek up at the monitor and see that contrary to popular belief, I am not full of ...it. It was outpatient, even though they took biopsies. The procedure itself was nothing- don't worry about it at all- very simple and not uncomfortable or irritating or really noticeable.

FYI, depending on what they're doing, your bowel prep is the difficult part- mine involved drinking 4 litres of electrolyte over the course of a few hours, which eventually passes through your system without changing in appearance. You're clean throughout. I couldn't choke it all down, so I got Magnesium Citrate in place of the last litre. It was far better tasting, had a slightly sparkling fizziness, and again made it all the way through me without changing appearance. If it's an option, I'd go for the Mag. Citrate directly rather than trying to drink the nasty electrolyte again.

Haven't got the bill yet, but I believe it will be covered by my insurance completely.

X2. Thats the way to go (pun intended). I had one done two years ago and you do want to be sedated for that. Nurse anesthetist is fine. Make sure you do it and don't post-pone it.
