While I thoroughly enjoy "good" beers and that's generally what I buy, I'm still able to slum around when the opportunity presents itself. Like when dad's buying. :)

Back when my buds and I were pre-kids and able to escape the then GF's wrath and go "fishing" for a week, nothing beat an ice cold cooler full of Old Milwaukee after a day in the sun! Quantity over quality was the word of the week and it just hit the spot. I don't know that I've had it since then. I ought to buy a 12pk for old time's sake.

We used to get 40's of Crazy Horse Malt Liquor. They were $1.50 each.

A friend's father used to buy beer in a white can that said "BEER". When he couldn't find that it was Piel's. He was all about quanity.:D

San Miguel Dark paired nicely with thin crust pepperoni pizza.

My father showed up at the house for Christmas dinner with a 6pk of Piels in his cooler. Somebody brought it to his house and nobody drank it. It says something about a beer if my father won't drink it. :D But he knew who the beer disposal was. I gave it a proper send off. ;)

I've had plenty of Schaeffer beer too. All the men on my mother's side of the family drove Big Rigs for F. & M. Schaefer Brewing Company in the 70's. They were all loyal to their employer.:)

You haven't had malt liquor until you've had King Cobra or a knock-off I once saw called "King Snake." The slogan was "Get Bit by the Snake." :D:D If I remember correctly it was $0.80  for a 40oz, and this was in the early 1990s. Did not sample any of this fine brew, my guess is that it would have to be nearly frozen for one not to  while drinking or soon after.

I also saw a malt liquor on the West Coast about ten (??) years ago. The name escapes me but the slogan was "Another Man Down." :D I think there was a stick figure cartoon laying on the floor somewhere on the label.

Never tried that one either. I'll stick to my Pilsner Urquell and similar styles.

This one is interesting but only in small doses

Believe it or not, I actually discovered Grolsch when I lived in Japan.

I used to drink at a bar that carried it, and it caught my attention because of the unusual cap.

I am always pleased whenever I see it on the menu here in So. Cal, which isn't too often.

That sounds really good! I'm going to try that the next time I go to the bar.

I've had Kirin and thought it was OK. What was the popular brew in Japan?

Skippy,

Not as good as the stout with vanilla, but have you ever tried a shot of Amaretto dropped in a mug of beer? It tastes like Dr. Pepper and the head is like soda foam. It's worth trying once.:D

Lol, that's exactly it. You go full circle. After drinking premiums in the fancy downtown clubs, you head out to the country/cottage and go fishing. Somehow a Stella doesn't look right next to the tackle box. But a Carling or Lakehead (Make'r a Lake'r, it's a buck a beer) is at home as a labrador retriever at an L.L. Bean photoshoot. Ditto Old Milwaukee or Pabst Blue Ribbon.

It's all about the place, the people, and the time. :D
