I'm curious to know if anyone here has vacationed on a houseboat. I've been kind of looking into it as a possibility and think it could be very cool. Lake Powell and Lake Mead look amazing.

I hope to find the perfect destination with the best accommodations for 6 adults and 2 kids. 2 of the adults are older and like to go shopping and eat at nice restaurants. Everyone else wants to beach somewhere and relax or go enjoy the lake and rent jet skis or canoes.

Any suggestions or tips?

You can rent a canalboat on the Erie Canal. That's a little closer to you.

My family has a houseboat on Lake Powell.



We try to go there every summer.


Recently though, the level of water has been declining.

it's automatic.

I was going to suggest Deep Creek Lake in western MD....but I don't think they allow house boats.

I spent a week down there last summer with my family and it's gorgeous....and not nearly as far away as Lake Mead....unless that's your intent?

Cool idea though....I'm sure this forum can suggest something.

Being close enough to drive instead of flying is a plus, but I'm more concerned with finding the right destination.

My parents are in their 50's and aren't very athletic. In order to convince them of doing this trip, they want to know they have something to do other than sitting on a boat all day.

I've always thought of taking a houseboat, if possible, all the way down the Ohio River from Pittsburgh. I'll bet that would be quite a trip.
